Few things are scarier than Batman and Superman’s worst enemies working together, but even worse is when those enemies become one. For years, Batman has been tormented by the Joker’s madness, and Superman has battled Lex Luthor’s evil plans. These two villains are uniquely dangerous compared to any others the heroes have faced. Though they usually operate alone, the Joker and Lex Luthor aren’t afraid to team up if it means defeating Batman and Superman.
Lex Luthor and the Joker are an unlikely pair – one is incredibly self-centered, the other a psychopath – yet they’ve teamed up more often than you might think. The comic series Batman/Superman: World’s Finest has explored some of these lesser-known moments in DC history, including their initial alliance and a short period as members of the villain group Inferno. However, those previous collaborations seem minor compared to what they’ve done recently. They’ve now merged in a way that makes them even more powerful and dangerous, posing a serious threat to both Superman and Batman.
Joker and Lex Luthor Combine to Take Down Batman and Superman

It was only a matter of time before trouble struck in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #45, written by Mark Waid with art by Adrián Gutiérrez, Norm Rapmund, and Tamra Bonvillain. The story sees the Joker approaching Lex Luthor with a proposition: steal the Absorbascon, a powerful alien artifact rumored to grant its user limitless knowledge. Lex, despite his reservations, agrees, and the unlikely pair travel to Midway City to pilfer it from a museum. Unfortunately, the museum is protected by the formidable Hawkman, who immediately launches an attack.
Okay, so things got intense. Lex was going toe-to-toe with Hawkman, and then Superman and Batman jumped in, but the Joker, being the Joker, pulled a fast one and swiped the Absorbacon, causing a huge diversion. Of course, Lex immediately tried to double-cross Joker and grab the Absorbacon for himself – predictable, right? Just as Superman and Batman showed up, there was this massive explosion, and when the dust settled, Lex and Joker had merged into this seriously scary being. Even worse, this new creature used some kind of phasing tech to make Superman and Batman unable to stop whatever terrible plans it has brewing. It’s a total mess!
Only a Batman/Superman Fusion Can Stop a Joker/Lex Luthor Combo

Readers of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest have already seen characters combined – the first story arc introduced “Super-Bat,” a blend of Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne. It’s a little surprising it took writer Mark Waid so long to revisit that concept with Lex Luthor and the Joker. Given how popular Super-Bat was, it makes sense that we’d eventually see a fusion of Batman and Superman’s greatest enemies. Now, the big question is: how will this new Joker/Lex combination stack up against Super-Bat?
Okay, so Superman and Batman teaming up is awesome, no question. But honestly, people are really downplaying how terrifying Lex Luthor and the Joker becoming one being is. Lex is legitimately one of the smartest people in the DC Universe – smart enough to actually challenge someone like Superman. And the Joker? Forget about it. He’s completely unhinged, coming up with twisted, horrifying schemes that no sane person would ever dream of. Remember the Batman Who Laughs? This feels almost as scary, because Lex has the intellect and resources to do pretty much anything Batman can, and together, they could genuinely wipe us all out if they felt like it.
This story takes place in the past, so we know Batman and Superman will ultimately succeed. However, even combined as ‘Super-Bat,’ they’ll face a serious challenge from a new, powerful pairing of DC’s most dangerous villains. Will Super-Bat’s strength be enough, or will Bruce and Clark need to come up with a clever new plan to defeat this threatening combination? Whatever happens, it’s going to be exciting to watch Superman and Batman battle a fusion of the Joker and Lex Luthor.
