Batman: The Animated Series Game Just Revealed Addition of Iconic Villain

Many fans consider Batman: The Animated Series to be a high point for the Dark Knight, and a big reason is the show’s memorable portrayal of Batman’s villains. Characters like the Joker, Penguin, and Poison Ivy are often cited as fan favorites, and the show even introduced some new villains to the Batman universe. Now, one of these original characters is joining the upcoming Batman: The Animated Series game, and we’re excited to see how they’ll play a role.

DC Comics fans have a lot to anticipate this year, especially the board game Batman: The Animated Series – Enemies of Gotham City. In the game, players can control 12 different Batman villains and try to conquer Gotham while avoiding Batman himself. Now, Upper Deck has announced a new expansion that adds four more villains to the game, including the dangerous Phantasm, a popular character from the animated movie Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.

The Phantasm Joins Batman: The Animated Series Game, And They Are Not Alone

The latest expansion is called Knight on the Town, and it adds several new playable characters alongside The Phantasm, including The Riddler, Killer Croc, and Man-Bat. Killer Croc lets you attack other villains, while The Riddler focuses on spreading traps throughout the city and using Riddle tokens to take control of different areas.

Both The Phantasm and Man-Bat are operating as independent villains. While we’re still learning how they’ll interact with the other antagonists, we know The Phantasm focuses on carrying out revenge, and Man-Bat is skilled at creating hidden formulas.

With the addition of four new villains, Enemies of Gotham City now boasts one of the largest collections of Batman foes ever seen in a video game. The game already featured iconic villains like The Joker, Ra’s Al Ghul, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Clayface, Bane, The Mad Hatter, Two-Face, The Penguin, Red Claw, and Scarecrow, and this expansion adds The Phantasm, The Riddler, Man-Bat, and Killer Croc to the mix.

I’m really loving the villain roster in the game so far, but there are still a few key baddies missing! I was thinking about it, and Clock King, Hugo Strange, The Ventriloquist and Scarface would be awesome additions. Catwoman too, though she’s always walked the line between hero and villain, so maybe she’ll be a helper this time around. And honestly? Please, please add Condiment King! That would be hilarious and so much fun to play as.

The Phantasm first appeared in the 1993 animated movie Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. A central mystery of the film revolves around who The Phantasm is, as they begin eliminating Gotham City’s most powerful criminals. It’s eventually revealed that The Phantasm is actually Andrea Beaumont, a woman Bruce Wayne once proposed to. She’s returned to Gotham, but Batman discovers she has her own reasons for being there, which will lead to conflict between them.

Batman: The Animated Series – Enemies of Gotham City will release later this year.
