Batman’s New Batmobile Takes Inspiration From a Highly Regarded DC Movie

If Batman is planning on refreshing his costume, he might as well revamp the Batmobile at the same time. The ongoing series of DC’s Batman is set to relaunch in September with a new team of writer Matt Fraction and artist Jorge Jimenez. A fresh start for Batman with issue #1 is quite significant, as everyone will be eager to see where DC takes the Dark Knight next. We mentioned a possible new costume for Batman, along with Tim Drake’s Robin receiving a new suit too. This means that it’s time for Batman’s additional gear to undergo a makeover as well. The updated design for the Batmobile should evoke memories of another Batmobile from a recent DC film feature.

Jorge Jimenez, the artist behind Batman, posted preliminary designs and sketches of the upcoming Batmobile on social media. He excitedly announced, “Check out this sneak peek of the new Batmobile!” On Instagram, he wrote, “I hope you enjoy this design direction; the vehicle is huge, powerful, and electric – incredibly fast! By the way, we’re in the final stages for placing pre-orders on Batman #1! Don’t forget to secure yours! Thanks!

The Batmobile showcases an elegant structure, adorned with the modernized Batman emblem on its wheels. Notably, Jimenez mentions that this vehicle is electric, making it not only stylish but also energy-saving, which could prove advantageous during high-speed pursuits of villains such as the Joker or Riddler. Some draft plans for the Batmobile reveal that a hybrid model is under consideration while Batman experiments with a fully electric power system; self-inflating tires versus armored ones; various headlight alternatives; bulletproof glass windows; a stainless steel body, and a second seat for either Alfred or Robin.

Robert Pattinson’s Batmobile in The Batman Makes Its Way to the Comics

One intriguing observation among fans was the resemblance between the on-screen Batmobile and the one used by Robert Pattinson’s character in ‘The Batman’. After multiple postponements due to the pandemic, ‘The Batman’, directed by Matt Reeves, hit theaters in 2022. In this film, Robert Pattinson portrays the Dark Knight, accompanied by Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Paul Dano as Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon. The Batmobile played a significant role in thrilling sequences, including a high-speed chase with Penguin through the city streets of Gotham.

The rapid popularity of this latest Batmobile design suggests it would eventually appear in a Batman comic. Moreover, another new version of the Batmobile emerged in Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta’s Absolute Batman, which dwarfs any previous iterations of the vehicle, demonstrating the diverse forms that Batmobiles can take.

In the story “Absolute Batman”, it’s unlikely that the Batmobile would be powered solely by electricity. It seems like Batman might be adopting some eco-friendly traits from Poison Ivy, conserving fossil fuels in the process. Regardless of the reason, he looks admirable for taking this approach.

Jorge Jimenez has likewise unveiled sketches for Tim Drake’s updated Robin suit, which is predominantly red. Fans have pointed out that the outfit bears a resemblance to the attire Tim sported during the “One Year Later” narrative. Remarkably, the cover of Batman #2 showcases Robin in an identical pose as Bruce Wayne on the initial issue, with Robin and his new costume being portrayed in silhouette against the backdrop of his flowing yellow cape.

Looking forward to discovering the new twists Matt Fraction and Jorge Jimenez are set to introduce to Batman over the next few months. They’ve hinted at revitalizing Gotham City as well.
