EA and Battlefield Studios have shared a lot about the multiplayer side of *Battlefield 6*, but details about the single-player campaign have been scarce until recently. A new trailer gave a first look, and now IGN has published a detailed preview offering more information. According to IGN’s Mark Medina, the campaign will emphasize diverse gameplay experiences and continue to feature the large-scale environmental destruction the series is known for.
The single-player campaign in *Battlefield 6* is set in 2027, just like the game’s multiplayer. You play as a member of Dagger-13, a specialized US Marines squad, with each character representing one of the multiplayer classes. Because you control the entire squad throughout the campaign, you’ll need to give commands and utilize each member’s unique skills and abilities.
The preview showcased three missions from the game’s campaign, highlighting the diverse objectives and gameplay they offer. These missions were selected from different points in the story: the first is actually the third mission in the full game, the second is mission five, and the third is mission eight, as explained by Medina.
Okay, so I jumped into the first preview mission, called Operation Gladius, and it started with me manning the gun on a tank. My job was basically to blow up enemy bunkers and take out troops. Then, things switched up and I was playing as an Engineer, tasked with keeping a tank rolling through this totally wrecked town. Most of the mission was just fighting off waves of enemies while also frantically repairing the tank to keep it from getting destroyed. The whole thing ended with a push to take the town’s City Hall, which meant even *more* enemies to deal with!
The second mission focuses on close-quarters combat in a city. Players will clear an apartment building, breaking down doors with tools like a sledgehammer, before engaging in a firefight between buildings. The action then moves underground, requiring players to use tools such as a thermal scope to identify enemies hidden in the rubble. The mission culminates at a construction site with a dramatic goal: destroying the Brooklyn Bridge. However, players must battle their way through to disable key transmitters first.
The third mission featured a large, open map that let players freely explore and experiment. Players could drive a vehicle and initially had the simple goal of destroying some surface-to-air missile (SAM) sites scattered around the area. The level design allowed for a variety of approaches to tackling these sites. Soon after, the mission escalated into a full-scale battle with many enemies, culminating in a firefight across a dam.
The new Battlefield game is launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 10th. Here’s a complete rundown of everything you should know about it.
