The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still doing very well in theaters, and with more video game movies like those based on Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda planned, it looks like another popular game series is about to get the movie treatment.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a movie based on the popular Battlefield video game series is being developed. Christopher McQuarrie, known for directing Mission: Impossible films, will write, direct, and produce. Michael B. Jordan is also producing and may take on a leading role in the movie.
Sources say the movie project, with EA involved as a producer, is now being presented to various studios and is likely to spark a competitive bidding process.
So, I’m hearing that Ralph McQuarrie and a few other people have been shopping this project around to studios like Apple and Sony. Apparently, they’re really hoping for a big screen release, which probably means Netflix isn’t going to pick it up. Fingers crossed it actually happens in theaters!

The Battlefield series began in 2002 with the release of Battlefield 1942. Since then, each game has explored different eras, even venturing into futuristic settings. The latest installment, Battlefield 6, came out in 2025 and takes place in the very near future.
We don’t yet have any information about the movie’s story, like when and where it takes place, or who the characters will be.
A movie based on the Battlefield video game is in development at the same time as a Call of Duty film. That Call of Duty movie will be directed by Peter Berg and written with Taylor Sheridan, and Paramount Pictures is producing it.

Tom McQuarrie recently directed ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,’ and he also directed the three ‘Mission: Impossible’ films before it.
Jordan recently gave an award-winning performance in the film Sinners, earning him the Academy Award for Best Actor.
He’s also working on a few other projects, including the animated comedy Swapped and a fresh take on The Thomas Crown Affair. The new Thomas Crown Affair will feature Adria Arjona, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, Ruth Negga, Aubrey Plaza, and Kenneth Branagh alongside him.
