The popular BBC series Blue Lights is returning for a fourth season, and the cast is now set! Richard Dormer, known for his roles in Game of Thrones and Fortitude, will be back for the new season.
Blue Lights offers a glimpse into the work of a police department in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as they handle a wide range of cases – from minor offenses to serious organized crime – and work to connect with the people they serve.
Richard Dormer portrayed Gerry Cliff, a police sergeant who was killed off in the first season of the popular and highly-rated Belfast-based police drama.
Officer Dormer was shot and killed by a local gangster during a regular patrol with his partner, Officer Jen Robinson, who is played by Hannah McClean.
A beloved character, his death and legacy continued to impact the following two seasons.

I’m so excited Richard Dormer is coming back! The next season is going to center around the trial for the crime his character committed, and it looks like that trial is going to unearth a really dangerous secret. It’s going to cause major problems, not just within the police force, but also with all the criminals in town. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
The upcoming season will bring back some beloved characters, like Hannah McClean and Jonathan Harden as the former Inspector Jonty. Their appearance in an episode promises to resolve lingering mysteries, including details surrounding Gerry’s death.
Season 4 of Blue Lights, filmed in Belfast, will have six one-hour episodes. It’s planned for release later this year, though the specific date hasn’t been announced yet.
Nick Lambon, a commissioning editor for BBC Drama, said they were thrilled to have Richard Dormer return for the new series, as Gerry Cliff was a key character in the first season and the cast is exceptionally talented.
We’re thrilled to be filming in Belfast again! The new season of Blue Lights will be full of surprises, and fans have a lot to anticipate.

Siân Brooke, Katherine Devlin, and Nathan Braniff are back as Constables Grace Ellis, Annie Conlon, and Tommy Foster. Having been response officers for three years, they’re now stretched to their limits dealing with a dangerous new threat on the streets that the police are struggling to contain.
Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, who created and wrote the series, said they are thrilled to share ‘Blue Lights’ with viewers.
This gripping story uncovers hidden truths, explores modern justice in Belfast, and connects the lives of Grace, Annie, and Tommy across time. It’s full of action, and we’re excited to begin filming!
Returning to their roles are Martin McCann as Stevie, Joanne Crawford as Helen McNally, Andi Osho as Sandra, Frank Blake as Shane, Abigail McGibbon as Tina, Dearbháile McKinney as Aisling, and Andrea Irvine as Nicola.
Blue Lights season 4 is expected to return to BBC One and iPlayer in September 2026.
