BBC Radio 2 confirms Sara Cox show launch date and very special Hollywood guest

Presenter Sara Cox has revealed she will kick off her new BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show next month.

In April, the broadcaster was named the new host of the station’s main show after Scott Mills was let go due to concerns about his behavior.

Zoe Cox’s show premieres on July 6th, and its very first guest will be Tom Hanks, who will be discussing his latest movie, Toy Story 5.

The DJ announced the news on Monday, June 15th, during an appearance on Vernon Kay’s Radio 2 program, expressing her great excitement.

“OK, my big news is… God, I’ve gone all hot and excited,” she said.

I have some exciting news! There’s been a lot of curiosity about when my new show, the Sara Cox Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, will start. I’ve been playfully vague, just saying ‘sometime this summer’ and hinting at the date.

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be hosting my first Breakfast Show on Radio 2 on July 6th – just three weeks from today! Tune in at 6:30am. I can hardly contain my excitement!

She playfully said she’s planning to set 42 alarms to make sure she’s up early, and excitedly announced: “This is the very first Sara Cox Breakfast Show! I can’t wait!”

The BBC announced that the new program will have a revamped format. Zoe Cox will feature popular segments from her previous show, alongside new content designed to brighten your mornings and interviews with major celebrities.

When Cox was named the new host of the breakfast show in April, she shared her excitement, saying she was thrilled and honored. She also described it as a meaningful moment, bringing her career full circle.

As a long-time listener, I was really touched by what she shared. She said these past seven years on her teatime show have been the best of her career, and she’s so grateful to all of us who tuned in. Now, she’s hoping we’ll follow her to her new breakfast show where she promises more great music, her signature quirky style, and some fantastic guests. It sounds like a fun ride ahead!

“I honestly can’t wait to wake the nation up with the biggest most fun breakfast show ever.”
