Tina Daheley, the newsreader on BBC Radio 2’s breakfast show, is leaving the program after more than seven years.
She is leaving shortly before Sara Cox takes over as host, replacing Scott Mills who was let go by the BBC in March.
Newsreader Daheley revealed she was leaving her role on Tuesday, June 16th, while broadcasting. She started with the show in 2019 when Zoe Ball became the host and remained a key part of the team through Mills’ time as presenter.
She shared with her audience that it meant a lot to her to be part of so many people’s lives as they grew up, saying it was truly an honor.
In a post on Instagram, she announced that after over seven years of waking up early for the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, she’s leaving the program.
It’s been a true honor to start each day with you, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have shared the news on such a popular breakfast program.
I now work at Radio 2, but my broadcasting career began at 1Xtra, where I got my first big break reading the news on Trevor Nelson’s show. After that, I spent ten years at Radio 1, reaching a quarter of all young listeners in the UK.
After hosting a breakfast show for 18 years – including six consecutive ones, which is likely a record! – I’m excited to finally get some extra sleep.
She said she’s sending good wishes to Sara and her team, and plans to watch when she can – even during the busy school drop-off.

She explained that she isn’t leaving the station completely, and will be filling in on the lunchtime show whenever Jeremy Vine is away.
She clarified that she isn’t leaving Radio 2, explaining listeners can still hear her between noon and 2pm whenever Jeremy is absent. She also confirmed she’ll be appearing on BBC One after the summer, with more news to come later.
Following accusations regarding his behavior, Mills left his position at the BBC in March. The Metropolitan Police later revealed that they had questioned him in 2018 about serious sexual offenses involving a boy under the age of 16.
The case was closed in 2019 due to lack of evidence.
In July, Cox will be taking over hosting duties from Mills. Her very first guest will be Tom Hanks, who’ll be discussing his latest movie, Toy Story 5.

The presenter revealed the launch date on Vernon Kay’s Radio 2 program on Monday, June 15th, playfully admitting she was feeling nervous and excited while sharing the information.
I have some exciting news! There’s been a lot of guessing about when my new show, the Sara Cox Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2, will start. I’ve purposely been vague, just saying ‘this summer’ and acting coy about it.
I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be hosting my first Breakfast Show on Radio 2 on July 6th – just three weeks from today! Tune in at 6:30 AM. I’m really excited for everyone to hear it.
