We’re getting our first look at The Split Up, the new series from the creators of The Split, and it promises to be just as dramatic and gripping as the original.
In the clip, we see Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy) take the lead as Aria Kishan.
Ritu is quickly becoming a prominent figure at Kishan Law, expected to eventually take over the firm from her father, Dhruv. We see her happily with her partner, Neal (Danny Ashok), who jokingly says he wants to marry her before he gets too old.
Just as she gets him to agree to no more surprises, she notices someone entering. Luke (Dimitri Leonidas) walks in, and Aria immediately asks him what he’s doing there. Before Luke can respond, Aria’s father, Dhruv (Sanjeev Bhaskar), arrives and seems puzzled, as Luke claims they’ve already met at a conference.

However, that claim isn’t true. Flashbacks reveal Aria and Luke previously shared a romantic relationship and were intimate with each other.
Dhruv finally explains Luke’s presence: he’s the new senior associate at Kishan Law. The news surprises Aria, who needs a moment to process it.

The show takes place amidst the intense and complex world of high-profile divorces in Manchester, and will further explore the story of Kishan Law, a successful British-South Asian family law firm, and the drama surrounding it.
Following the death of her mother, Dhruv starts questioning whether his daughter is ready to take over the family business. As Aria prepares to marry her partner, Neal, their relationship is tested by the pressures of work and personal life. Things become even more complicated when a past love, Dimitri Leonidas, unexpectedly shows up in Manchester, putting further strain on their upcoming wedding.
Aria faces difficult choices as she deals with family drama and complicated relationships, especially with her siblings Maya and Kav. She’s forced to question where her loyalties lie and ultimately, who she’s living her life for.
Kaamil Shah, a writer for the show, hinted in an interview with TopMob that it would be “very sensual.”
He described the show as exciting and passionate, expressing his pride in its portrayal of complex and relatable British Asian characters navigating love, relationships, and all the drama that comes with them. He’s thrilled to be involved in a project that doesn’t shy away from showing the messy, real side of life.
Alongside Arya, Ashok, Bhaskar, and Leonidas, “The Split Up” features Aysha Kala (as Maya) and Arian Nik (as Kai) playing Aria’s siblings. The cast also includes Mawaan Rizwan, Sindhu Vee, Shalini Peiris, and Tom Forbes.
The series will also feature appearances by Lenny Henry, known for “Three Little Birds,” Jane Horrocks from “Bloods,” and Jameela Jamil of “The Good Place.”
Inspired by Abi Morgan’s series The Split, The Split Up is a new show created by Ursula Rani Sarma (known for Bodkin) and produced by SISTER in partnership with Little Chick. While an exact release date hasn’t been announced, it’s expected to air later this year.
