After a five-year hiatus and no new animated series, Ben 10 is back – but this time as a comic book! Like the 2016 reboot, this new version starts the story over from the beginning. However, it takes a more mature and engaging approach than even the original cartoon, already winning over both longtime fans and new readers.
A really cool part of the Ben 10 comic is how it leans into the creepy side of the show. The comics add even more disturbing detail to Ben’s transformations into aliens, and both the aliens and villains have even more unsettling designs. This is especially clear with a newly revealed redesign of a classic villain – based on the cover art alone, it could be the best redesign the series has ever seen.
Ben 10’s Comic Gives One Of The Best Villains A Perfect Redesign
The cover for the fourth issue of the Ben 10 comic book has been released, and it shows that the classic villain Zombozo will appear for the first time. The comic’s art style gives Zombozo a much scarier look than his cartoon version – he has sharp teeth, wrinkled skin, and unsettling red eyes. His face is covered in scars, and his black coat looks like it’s merging with his skin. Essentially, the comic has redesigned Zombozo to resemble Pennywise from It, which makes sense given the character’s abilities and backstory.
Zombozo started as a one-time villain in Ben 10, but his frightening and disturbing nature, combined with the strong character growth Ben experienced while facing him, quickly made him a fan favorite. This led to him appearing again in Ultimate Alien, Omniverse, and the 2016 Ben 10 reboot. So, it’s fitting that the comic book reintroduced him quickly, and it’s a welcome return to the character’s original, scary style.
We don’t yet know how the Zombozo storyline will unfold in Ben 10 #4. It’s interesting that, like the 2016 reboot, Ben doesn’t start with Ghostfreak as one of his aliens. Ghostfreak was a key part of the original story and very popular with fans, even leading to a whole arc where he escaped the Omnitrix and became a villain. While the reboot managed to handle that storyline, it was a less serious version. Hopefully, the comic will focus on the scary aspects that made Zombozo so beloved to begin with.
Ben 10’s New Comic Is The Best Thing To Happen To The Franchise In Years
It’s been a while since we’ve seen much of Ben 10, and even before that, the series had some issues with keeping its story consistent and trying to please everyone. But the new comic book seems to be off to a great start! It feels much more focused, has a clear tone, and cleverly taps into what fans loved about the original, like the updated design of the villain Zombozo, which is a perfect example of this approach.
It’s hard to predict where the Ben 10 comic will go next, but the strong start with its first issue suggests it’s the revival the franchise’s longtime and new fans have been hoping for. The comic’s version of Zombozo will likely be central to this, and hopefully, issue #4, coming out this August, will deliver on the excitement.
