Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will join forces once more for an exciting new thriller arriving on Netflix on January 16, 2026. The streaming service has already shared a trailer and some sneak peeks from the upcoming movie!
The rough-edged preview features the main actors portraying Miami cops engaged in a seemingly intense, risky drugs investigation, as titles indicate the narrative is drawn from actual occurrences.
After uncovering a $20 million cache of cash, Damon’s character quips lightheartedly that “it would be much simpler if we just took this money”, and it appears that comment might not have been as trivial as it seemed. This seemingly flippant statement could foretell significant difficulties for his group.
You can watch it in full below:
A team of Miami police officers find themselves in a bind when they stumble upon large amounts of cash hidden away in an abandoned building. As word leaks about the size of their discovery, trust among them starts to crack. In the face of outside scrutiny, everyone and everything becomes questionable, even who they can depend on.
Directed and penned by Joe Carnahan, who has previously directed movies like Copshop and The Grey, this film is another addition to the series of projects crafted by long-standing friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Notable collaborations include Good Will Hunting, The Last Duel, and Air.

Additionally, a notable ensemble of talented actors is also part of the cast, such as Steven Yeun from Beef, Teyana Taylor from One Battle After Another, Sasha Calle from The Flash, Catalina Sandino Moreno known for Ballerina, Scott Adkins famous for John Wick 4, and Kyle Chandler recognized for Friday Night Lights. You can catch glimpses of all these stars in the trailer and promotional photos.
During our chat with Tudum, Carnahan praised Damon and Affleck as “outstandingly gifted directors” and “creative partners”, emphasizing that he’s never found movie-making as smooth as with The Rip. He mentioned they were incredibly supportive, ensuring his wellbeing, and standing by him throughout the process.

Discussing more on the background of the movie, he mentioned: “The Rip stemmed from a very personal ordeal faced by my friend, encompassing his role as a father and his position as the head of tactical narcotics within the Miami Dade police force.

This creation is influenced by certain aspects of his life and my lasting affection for ’70s cop dramas, which emphasized character development and personal connections. These films, such as Serpico, Prince of The City, and more recent ones like Heat by Michael Mann, have left an indelible mark on that era.
