Ben Affleck has built a successful career in Hollywood, with recent praise for his Netflix film, The Rip. He’s also starred in several critically acclaimed and popular movies like Gone Girl, Argo, The Town, and Good Will Hunting, earning recognition as both an actor and a filmmaker. While not every film he’s been involved with has been a hit, his lowest-rated movie is currently available to stream for free.
The 2003 film Gigli, notorious for its poor reception (a 6% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 14% from audiences), is now available on Tubi. Starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, this romantic comedy crime film follows Larry Gigli (Affleck), a small-time mobster assigned to kidnap the brother of a federal prosecutor. The plot gets complicated when it’s revealed his bosses don’t have much faith in him, so they bring in Ricki (Lopez) to oversee the operation – and Gigli falls for her, despite the fact that she’s a lesbian. It’s a truly unusual story.
Free Is Really The Only Way to Watch Gigli Because It Really Is That Bad
Even though a weak starting point doesn’t automatically make a movie bad, it definitely does with Gigli. Simply put, everything about this film is poor. The script is awful and unnatural, and it makes an already weak and sometimes offensive story even worse. The movie also struggles to find a consistent mood, making it feel disjointed. Plus, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck seem completely disengaged throughout the entire film.
The acting in Gigli, from both Affleck and Lopez, felt flat and uninspired, resulting in surprisingly little chemistry between them – especially considering they started dating on set. The movie was a complete disaster and is widely considered one of the worst ever made. Even now, years later, it’s still pretty bad, though people are a little more forgiving looking back. It’s unintentionally funny, gaining humor from how much of a mess it is rather than from the script itself. That makes it worth watching, but probably best to stream it for free.
