Damien Molony returns as detective Jim Bergerac in a new season of the show Bergerac. The series, set in Jersey, is a remake of the popular detective drama from the 1980s.
The first season, which debuted on U&Drama in February 2025, followed Jim as he grieved the loss of his wife and raised his daughter, Kim (played by Chloe Sweetlove), with support from his mother-in-law, Charlie (Zoe Wanamaker).
With the start of the new season, it’s been a year and a half since Jim’s wife passed away. Actor Molony recently told TopMob that viewers will notice significant developments in his character’s storyline.
We see a different Jim in this new series. He was deeply affected by loss in the first season, struggling with pain and trying to rebuild his life.
“I describe it as it’s like a circus tent, and Jim’s wife was the main pole, and now she’s gone.
The first series of the show focused on three characters – Jim, Charlie, and Kim – who are trapped together, both physically trying to escape and emotionally searching for connection with each other. That’s how I remember the emotional core of the series.

He explained that things are starting to improve. People are gradually recovering and beginning to move forward, including Jim’s daughter and his mother-in-law.
She’s started seeing someone else, and Jim is increasingly at risk of being alone. His friends have all moved on with their lives, and people are concerned about how he’ll handle it – specifically, if he’ll relapse into alcoholism. While everyone is worried, there’s still a glimmer of hope for him.
Molony is optimistic that Jim will start dating again in the new season. Although his first blind date is a complete failure, it surprisingly leads him to connect with a new person on the island.
Molony described how the main character meets Nicola, and they immediately feel a strong connection. Both are struggling with addiction and have experienced significant pain and loss, but they believe they can support each other in overcoming their challenges.
They were aware they often sabotaged themselves, and exploring that self-destructive tendency – that feeling of being drawn to something dangerous – was a really compelling part of the performance.
Bergerac season 2 is now on U&DRAMA.
