The anime adaptations of Berserk have often been challenging for fans. The most recent attempt, Berserk: Memorial Edition, simply re-edited footage from the previous three movies, focusing on the Golden Age Arc. Before that, the 2016 Berserk anime received a lot of criticism for its animation, which many felt didn’t live up to the quality of the original manga. Surprisingly, even though a new full series hasn’t been announced, a new animated project is currently in the works, adapting one of the manga’s most exciting and unusual storylines.
I was surprised to learn that a new Berserk pachinko machine will actually animate the fight against the Sea God! For those unfamiliar, this battle happened in chapters 316-321 of the manga and was a truly terrifying encounter – seriously, the creature felt like something straight out of an H.P. Lovecraft story. It took place during Guts’ years at sea, a significant part of the manga, and it’s never been animated before. Now, thanks to these pachinko machines, we’ll finally get to see this fight unfold using CG animation, and you can check it out! While it’s not exactly the revival many Berserk fans were hoping for, it’s great to see continued interest in the series and Miura’s incredible work.

What Was The Latest Berserk Storyline Animated?

The most recent completely new episode of the anime Berserk aired in 2017, as part of the second season of its controversial adaptation. After Guts obtained the power of the Berserker armor and used it to defeat numerous Apostles, he and his companions reached the city of Vritannis. Although Guts gained strength from the armor, it’s difficult to control and remains a dangerous burden for him.
The previous anime series covered the story after the Golden Age Arc, adapting up to around chapter 230 of the Berserk manga. This leaves over 150 chapters of the manga still unadapted, aside from these new pachinko machines. However, these machines rarely become available in North America, as pachinko isn’t as popular in Western countries as it is in Asia.
I’m always amazed by how huge pachinko is in Japan! And it’s not just Berserk getting its own machines, you know? So many awesome anime series have been turned into pachinko games – Mobile Suit Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer… the list goes on! Honestly, with so many franchises getting the pachinko treatment, it felt inevitable that Berserk would join the fun!
I’ve been noticing a lot of buzz about Berserk‘s return, and it’s amazing to see the excitement! I’d love to hear your thoughts on it too. Feel free to share what you think in the comments, and join the discussion over at the ComicBook Forum!
