With the quick popularity of Bert Kreischer’s new six-episode Netflix series, it looks like traditional stand-up comedy might be gaining popularity again in 2026.
Bert Kreischer’s new six-episode series just dropped on Netflix and is ideal for watching all at once. Since premiering on January 22nd, it’s quickly become the most popular new scripted comedy on Netflix, both in the U.S. and around the world.
Free Bert Is Perfect For Fans Of 2000s Comedy Movies
Currently, “Free Bert” is a huge hit on Netflix, and it shows the streaming service is quickly becoming the go-to place for bringing back classic comedies. While “Free Bert” is a fresh idea from comedian Bert Kreischer, it definitely feels like the funny, slightly raunchy movies of the 2000s – think “Wedding Crashers,” “Superbad,” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” – are back in style.
The new Netflix comedy series Free Bert quickly became popular last weekend, reaching the #2 spot on the trending charts and currently ranking as the #3 show in the U.S. This suggests a strong audience interest in bold and humorous content. The show features Bert playing a slightly exaggerated version of himself, similar to Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm, as he and his family navigate the upscale and often strict social norms of Beverly Hills.
The new comedy series Free Bert is already making people laugh and has quickly become popular on Netflix. Its six short episodes seem to be working well – Netflix used a similar strategy with the first season of Shane Gillis’ Tires, which started with a shorter run before being extended to twelve episodes for season two.
Why Netflix’s Free Bert Season 2 Needs To Happen
Netflix
As a critic, I’m keeping a close eye on Free Bert. If the show continues to perform well on the streaming charts through the end of January, a second season feels almost guaranteed – especially with that season one cliffhanger! We’ve seen Netflix give a show a real boost after a shaky start before – remember Tires? The first season was clearly made on a shoestring budget, but they really invested in season two. Free Bert has demonstrated enough promise early on that it absolutely deserves the chance to build on that momentum with a second season.
I was really excited to see Tires season 2 bring in some major names like Thomas Haden Church and Vince Vaughn, and even launch the career of a new Saturday Night Live player, Veronica Slowikowska. It got me thinking – if Netflix does the same thing with Free Bert, bringing in big stars and up-and-comers – which totally fits the LA vibe of the show – it could really become the fresh, funny, and slightly awkward comedy that Curb Your Enthusiasm fans have been craving since it ended.
As of today, Netflix hasn’t announced whether there will be a second season of Free Bert. However, given the show’s immediate popularity and its unique, edgy humor – a style rarely seen now – a renewal would be a smart move.
