Best New Artist Winner Olivia Dean Says She’s a “Product of Bravery”

There’s a new member of the Pink Pony Club.

Just a year after being named Best New Artist, Chappell Roan presented the award to Olivia Dean at the 2026 Grammys. The ceremony, hosted by Trevor Noah, took place on February 1st at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. You can find a complete list of winners here.

Honestly, I was completely stunned when she started speaking. She admitted she never expected to be nominated, let alone winning, and her simple ‘thank you’ felt so genuine and heartfelt. It was a really special moment, and you could tell she was truly touched.

The artist behind “Man I Need,” who shared the stage with fellow Best New Artist nominees like KATSEYE, The Marías, Addison Rae, sombr, Leon Thomas, Alex Warren, and Lola Young just before the winner was revealed, also expressed gratitude to her family. She shared, “I’m standing here as the granddaughter of an immigrant, and I’m a result of their courage. Those brave individuals deserve recognition.”

The 26-year-old finished by saying how much they rely on each other. They expressed their love and gratitude, adding that they had a wonderful time.

Before this year’s Grammy Awards, a lot of the people nominated said they were surprised and excited to be considered, especially since it was their first time.

“It’s truly a huge honor,” said Lara Raj of the group KATSEYE in an interview with People on January 5th. “None of us were expecting it—it was a complete surprise.”

When we learned the news, we were all overwhelmed with emotion – crying and shouting with joy. It’s incredibly meaningful to be recognized alongside so many established and respected figures in the industry, people we’ve always admired. Many of those nominated have inspired us to become artists ourselves.

Plus, Lara noted what the group’s plan would be if they took home gold. 

Honestly, after every single show, all we want to do is collapse and sleep! Like, seriously, we’re exhausted. But… oh my gosh, if we actually won a Grammy? Forget sleep! We’d have to have a party, a huge celebration! The six of us, definitely. It would be insane, and we deserve it!

Alex Warren shared a heartfelt reaction with his wife, Kouvr Annon, when he found out he’d been nominated.

He told the Associated Press in December that he cried while holding his wife, explaining that after years of people questioning him, the nomination felt like the ultimate proof he deserved.

Beyond awarding the Best New Artist, the Recording Academy presented many more awards at this year’s show. Here’s a list of all the winners from the 2026 Grammys.
