Fans of Bethesda’s games will be disappointed in June, as the company is shutting down The Elder Scrolls: Blades at the end of the month. Bethesda announced in March that online access to the game would end on June 30th, and while it’s no longer available for purchase, players can still enjoy it until then.
For almost six years, The Elder Scrolls: Blades has let fans enjoy a The Elder Scrolls role-playing game on mobile devices. Released in 2020 for Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch, the game focuses on exploring dungeons from a first-person perspective and tells a story centered around the Blades. With The Elder Scrolls 6 not expected until 2028 or 2029, the end of Blades is disappointing for fans of the series.
The Elder Scrolls: Blades Will Officially Be Shut Down in 30 Days
Players received a message within The Elder Scrolls: Blades announcing that the game would close permanently on June 30, 2026. Before that date, the game was removed from online stores, but those who already had it could continue playing. To allow players to enjoy everything the game offered before its closure, Bethesda discounted all in-game items to just one Gem or Sigil each.

When it first came out in 2020, The Elder Scrolls: Blades didn’t receive great reviews, but it was a significant attempt by Bethesda to enter mobile gaming. Another mobile game in The Elder Scrolls series, the card game Elder Scrolls: Legends, ended its six-year run in January 2025, just like Blades. After June 30th, the only Elder Scrolls game still available on mobile will be The Elder Scrolls: Castles, released in 2024. This game focuses on building and managing a castle to expand your kingdom.
With both The Elder Scrolls: Legends and The Elder Scrolls: Blades being discontinued, the future of Castles is now in question. However, Bethesda still has successful mobile games like Fallout Shelter, which has been downloaded 230 million times and recently saw a surge in popularity due to the Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime. Bethesda also offers other mobile apps, including Starfield Chronomark Watch, and mobile versions of the classic Doom and Doom 2 games.

The cancellation of The Elder Scrolls: Blades comes at a frustrating time for fans of the series. With The Elder Scrolls 6 still years away and details scarce, and support for last year’s The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered already fading, the upcoming shutdown of Blades means fewer Elder Scrolls games are available while fans wait for the next major release.
