Big Bang Theory Spinoff Unveils First Look at Series

The Big Bang Theory fans are in for a bazinga-worthy treat.

HBO Max revealed the first look at its upcoming spinoff series Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.

New photos released on April 27th show Kevin Sussman returning as Stuart Bloom, the comic book store owner from the CBS comedy that aired from 2009 to 2019. He’ll be joining in some fantastical adventures.

The preview introduces Denise (Lauren Lapkus), Bert (Brian Posehn), and Barry (John Ross Bowie) as they’re unexpectedly sent from sunny Southern California to different dimensions. These include a tropical paradise and a scene resembling a wartime battlefield.

The crew’s misadventures are all part of Stuart’s mission to save the world.

In the new HBO Max series, Stuart Bloom finds himself with a huge problem: he broke one of Sheldon and Leonard’s inventions and accidentally started a multiversal apocalypse. He’s now trying to fix reality, and gets help from his girlfriend Denise, a geologist friend named Bert, and the annoyingly brilliant physicist Barry Kripke.

The story follows the group as they encounter different versions of familiar characters from The Big Bang Theory. And, as the title suggests, it doesn’t go smoothly.

It doesn’t seem likely that Jim Parsons will reprise his role as Sheldon anytime in the near future, disappointing fans who were hoping for his return.

The Emmy-winning actor, who famously played the physicist for all 12 seasons of the show, said on the April 17th episode of The View that he wouldn’t want to revisit the role. He explained he doesn’t really miss playing the character, in part because after 12 years, the role had become very personal – the writers had tailored it to his own personality. He joked that while he wasn’t the genius the character portrayed, a lot of himself was woven into the performance.

However, the 53-year-old still cherishes his time portraying the beloved character.

I still remember a lot about what made him special as a person,” Parsons said. “The more time passes, the more surprised I am when people bring it up. It’s not that I’m unaware, it’s just that it doesn’t always cross my mind.

He added, “It’s always really sweet.”
