Japan’s biggest indie game show, BitSummit PUNCH, will return to Kyoto’s Miyako Messe from May 22-24, 2026. The event is organized by the Bitsummit Executive Committee, and registration for exhibitors is now open.
BitSummit 2026’s theme is ‘High Impact,’ encouraging developers to make a significant difference in the gaming industry with the tools they already have. The organizers believe that games, fueled by creativity and passion, have the potential to be truly powerful and even change the world – going beyond simply being well-made or efficient.
Here is an overview of the event, via the Bitsummit Executive Committee:
BitSummit is a major indie game festival in Japan. Starting in late 2012, it was created to showcase interesting Japanese indie games to players around the world. The first festival in 2013 was small, attracting around 200 people. However, by 2025, BitSummit had become a huge event, welcoming over 58,000 attendees.
In 2026, Bitsummit will celebrate its 14th year, and the event continues to grow in popularity. It’s received coverage from major gaming websites and magazines worldwide, including publications like Weekly Famitsu, Dengeki Online, and EDGE. Bitsummit has also been a frequent topic of discussion at leading industry events such as the Game Developers Conference, IndieCade, IndieCade East, and CEDEC.
