Black Clover Reunites Fans With a Forgotten Asta Rival at Last

As I stand by, captivated by the unfolding events, the Summer 2025 edition of Yuki Tabata’s “Black Clover” manga brings us closer to its conclusion than ever before. Mimosa, a trusted healer, is tenderly nursing Asta’s grave injuries inflicted by Lucius Zogratis. In response, a motley crew of allies and erstwhile adversaries rally to aid the Clover Kingdom in this crucial battle. Among them are mages from the Diamond Kingdom, elves, and an impressive number of Magic Knights. Meanwhile, Yuno stands firm against the antagonist, wielding Asta’s unique Anti-Magic abilities. Regrettably, the freshly appointed Captain of the Golden Dawn encounters a significant roadblock as his mana rapidly depletes at an alarming rate.

In Chapter 382, it’s revealed that Yuno’s longtime rival, Asta, should swiftly join the battlefront. The Magic Knights are instrumental in aiding Mimosa to rescue an Anti-Magic user. Notably, Leopold Vermillion, second son of the Vermillion royal family in Clover Kingdom and a Crimson Lion member, emerges. This serves as a testament to how much Asta has progressed compared to his adversaries who have challenged him. In an outburst, Leopold scolds Asta for appearing weak while reminding him that many, including himself, trust Asta as the only one capable of defeating Lucius in the impending battle that will decide the fate of the world in Black Clover.

A Bygone Rival Returns in Black Clover After Four Years

In the series, Leopold, a secondary character, doesn’t make frequent appearances. His last known encounter was in Chapter 284, during the Spade Kingdom Raid Arc, where he fought against Sivior Snyle, a disciple of the Dark Triad member Vanica Zogratis. After their battle, both Leopold and other Magic Knights were seriously injured when Sivior detonated himself. Interestingly, the elves transported the wounded to Elysia, an isolated elf village situated within a neutral zone, for healing. Since then, it’s been over four years since we received any updates about the character following his major fight in March 2021.

In the story “Black Clover”, Leopold has remained relatively unchanged over time and continues to view Asta as a rival. One aspect that makes this manga captivating is the intense competition between Asta and Yuno, but it’s not to say that Asta can’t have other adversaries. During the Royal Capital Assault Arc, Leopold found Asta’s resolve and peculiar demeanor admirable. He was also eager to meet the Magic Knight that his cousin sister Mimosa spoke of. To lighten the atmosphere during the banquet, Leopold publicly proclaimed Asta as his rival, causing all the nobles present to be taken aback. Yet, this wasn’t just a fleeting sentiment since he still regards Asta in the same manner as he did years prior.
