The anime Black Clover is coming back this fall with a new season! However, it won’t be as long as the first one. Many fans are excited for its return, and it’s easy to see why – the first season ended five years ago on a major cliffhanger. While the wait has been long, this new season is being made under different conditions than before.
The second season of Black Clover will be produced quite differently than the first. The original season had 170 episodes because weekly releases were standard practice for popular Shonen Jump series, and it closely followed the weekly manga releases. However, Season 2 will be much shorter, with a significantly reduced number of episodes.
Black Clover’s TV Anime Is Going Through a Massive Change
With its return this spring, One Piece is leading the way in a shift for how anime are made. The show has moved from releasing new episodes every week to a seasonal schedule with 26 episodes per year. This change signals that future anime based on Shonen Jump manga—including the upcoming season of Black Clover—will likely follow this same pattern.
The second season of Black Clover will probably have between 12 and 24 episodes, depending on how it’s divided into blocks. This makes sense given the amount of story left in Yuki Tabata’s manga. The new season will cover the Spade Kingdom Raid arc, which is near the end of the overall story, meaning the anime won’t have a huge number of episodes overall. Expect a significantly shorter season than previous ones.
When Does Black Clover Season 2 Come Out?

The second season of Black Clover is set to premiere this October as part of the Fall 2026 anime lineup, and it will be available to stream on Crunchyroll. While the exact number of episodes isn’t known yet, it’s expected to finish airing before the end of the year, ahead of the Winter 2026 schedule in January. This suggests there will probably be a wait before a possible third season is released.
It looks like Black Clover will probably switch to releasing new seasons only a few times each year until the anime catches up with the manga. The upcoming Season 2 seems likely to be the first of two or three more seasons before the series finishes. While the anime has had a high episode count, it hasn’t relied much on filler content, and now things will move even faster as it works towards adapting the entire manga.
