Blade MCU Movie Gets Update from Mia Goth, Talks Costume Fitting

Mia Goth has provided an update on the delayed Blade MCU movie.

Marvel Studios first revealed plans for a Blade movie at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019. Mahershala Ali is set to play Blade, and actress Goth is also cast, but the film has faced several delays. The script has been rewritten multiple times since the initial announcement, making it difficult to get the project started.

What did Mia Goth say about Blade?

During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Goth discussed the movie Blade and shared her thoughts on its many production delays.

Honestly, I was asking about that project too, and she didn’t really have much to share. She seemed to think they’re still committed to making it, but it’s clearly a passion project for them, and they’re being super careful with it. She admitted she didn’t know why it’s taking so long – just that it is. She kept saying ‘we’ll see,’ which, as a movie fan, is both frustrating and… hopeful, I guess!

I recently heard that Mia Goth was considered for a really interesting take on Blade. Apparently, one version of the script was set way back in the 1920s, and she would have played a villain called Lilith. It sounds like a totally different vibe from what we eventually got, and I’m fascinated by how that might have played out!

I actually auditioned for that role too! They flew me out to Atlanta and we did a chemistry read with Mahershala – it was so exciting! We even did costume and wig fittings, and I really loved the direction the project was heading. Mahershala had such a cool vision for his character, he was fantastic. Sadly, things just fell apart after that, which was really disappointing.

Okay, so the new Blade movie is still a bit of a mystery. Marvel hasn’t given it a release date yet, and they haven’t even found a director! It’s kind of wild because since they first announced it, we’ve actually seen other versions of Blade pop up in the MCU – Wesley Snipes made a fun cameo in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, and then there’s Todd Williams as the animated Blade Knight in Marvel Zombies. It makes you wonder what’s happening with the main Blade film!
