The movie version of It Ends With Us came out in theaters in summer 2024 and is now available on Netflix, but it’s been in the news recently due to a legal dispute involving its stars. Blake Lively’s lawyers claim she has lost over $100 million as a result of the issues surrounding the film and her co-star, Justin Baldoni. Here’s a closer look at what’s been happening.
The conflict started when Blake Lively accused Wayfarer Studios of wrongdoing. Justin Baldoni then sued Lively for defamation, seeking $400 million in damages. Although a judge dismissed Baldoni’s lawsuit, the issues continue. According to Variety, Lively’s representatives state she has lost $161 million due to the ongoing dispute.
The legal documents detail significant financial losses for Lively, alleging that the controversy surrounding It Ends With Us has damaged her public image and, consequently, her income. She reportedly lost $56.2 million in potential earnings from acting roles and sponsorships. Her beauty company, Blake Brown, is said to have lost $49 million, and her beverage line, Betty Buzz/Betty Booze, experienced a $22 million loss.

The claimed financial damages don’t stop at the initial amount. Lively’s legal team also argues she’s experienced $34 million in damage to her reputation due to the ongoing online conversation about the It Ends With Us controversy. Although these figures could be challenged in court, the total claimed amount reaches approximately $161 million.
Entertainment lawyer Gregory Doll explained to Variety why Blake Lively’s legal team is seeking such a large amount in damages. He stated:
These are initial figures you present during negotiations. The goal is to suggest a number high enough to make the other party take the discussion seriously and be motivated to reach an agreement.
Blake Lively is likely headed to court in March, meaning this issue will continue to be in the news for a while. While $161 million is a large sum, it’s much less than the $400 million Justin Baldoni originally sought in his defamation lawsuit. However, after his legal team couldn’t revise the lawsuit, it appears to have been dismissed permanently.
The lawsuit regarding the novel It Ends With Us began in December 2024, and with Blake Lively’s court date not scheduled until March, the story is expected to remain in the headlines for quite some time.
Lively has future films planned for 2026 and beyond, but Justin Baldoni doesn’t currently have any projects listed. It remains to be seen how long the ongoing legal issues will last and what impact they’ll have on both actors’ careers.
