Blizzard’s World of Warcraft roadmap shares its Player Housing vision of the future — Guild Halls, neighbour expansions, and more

Blizzard Entertainment shared details about the upcoming Player Housing feature for World of Warcraft in a recent interview with PC Gamer, announcing the plans on January 13, 2026.

Players who pre-ordered World of Warcraft: Midnight can try out this feature now through Early Access. Everyone else will get it on March 2, 2026, when the new expansion releases.

Blizzard Entertainment is building a Player Housing system designed to last well beyond the release of the Midnight expansion, with plans for ongoing activities, features, and updates both before and after its arrival. They aim for this system to be a long-term, evolving part of the game.

Here are summations of what you expect to see for Player Housing in World of Warcraft.

New Player Housing content coming soon

A preliminary update for World of Warcraft will be released on January 20, 2026, to prepare players for the events of the upcoming Midnight expansion.

This update introduces neighborhood-wide challenges for players in Early Access who have Player Housing. By completing these quests, you’ll earn decorations to customize your home.

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that more updates to Player Housing are planned, expected to arrive shortly after the recent pre-expansion update, or when the full expansion releases. These updates will include:

  • Guild Halls
  • New Decor items dropping in Midnight’s first set of Raids, with a guaranteed number of items from each boss that has decor. The count scales with raid size, and the loot will be personalized and have bad luck protection.
  • New Renown levels. Extra housing XP earned before the update goes live will be applied to the levels, and Blizzard Entertainment expects Housing Journey will have 5-10 levels added per major patch.
  • Houses will receive “Exterior rooms” to allow daylight and exterior scenes accessible in a player’s house.
  • Night Elf and Blood Elf exteriors.
  • “Medium”-sized home exteriors.
  • Increased visible plot boundaries so players can more easily see where they can add objects to their property.
  • Interactive objects for players to play with, such as holding glasses, reading books, or playing games like the Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred pre-order bonus chess set.

Blizzard Entertainment has announced they are continuing to develop Player Housing features, with more updates expected in the near future. These updates will include:

  • Importing and exporting rooms, collections of objects, and even entire house layouts.
  • Exterior decor limit increased.
  • Exterior lighting allowed.
  • Mounts and Pets you’ve collected wander around your home.
  • New decor items that mimic other cultures and biomes inside and outside your home, such as snow.
  • Flavor animations for certain decor items when you click on them.

Future plans for Player Housing after Midnight’s launch

Blizzard Entertainment is planning more updates for Player Housing beyond the upcoming Midnight expansion, but these may not be available for quite some time after its release.

  • Guild Rank Housing Permissions, where Guild Leaders can determine if a player is allowed to build a house in their guild’s neighbourhood.
  • Basement levels for players’ houses.
  • More space and support for roleplaying and community events.
  • Expansions of existing neighbourhoods or creating entirely new ones.

Are you ready to settle into your new home in World of Warcraft: Midnight?

So, here’s what Blizzard Entertainment has shared about the upcoming Player Housing feature in World of Warcraft. I understand they’re planning to release a much more detailed roadmap of what to expect closer to the launch of the Midnight expansion. It sounds like we’ll get a better idea of all the features and content then.

I’m really excited to try out the Player Housing feature once it’s fully released, especially after getting a sneak peek during Early Access.

The game allows for a lot of creative freedom, provides enjoyable activities for players and their friends, and gives endgame players more options beyond traditional content like raids, delves, pet battles, PvP, and fishing.

I’m really excited for World of Warcraft: Midnight to come out on March 2, 2026, for PC! I can’t wait to experience everything new, including fully customizable player housing, the Haranir race, solo adventures, updated raids and delves, and the Devourer Demon Hunter specialization, plus all the other additions.
