Blue Eye Samurai Reveals New Season 2 Preview With Story Details

Netflix has produced a lot of original animated series, but few have become popular as quickly as Blue Eye Samurai. Despite a quiet start, the story of Mizu quickly gained a dedicated fanbase. With the first season ending on a cliffhanger, fans have been eagerly awaiting news about the future of the show and its main character. Now, ahead of the Annecy Animation Festival, Netflix has revealed what to expect in season two, along with a fresh look at Mizu as she continues her journey for revenge.

Netflix has announced that Mizu’s journey continues in London for the new season of Blue Eye Samurai, picking up after the events of season one. The show will also revisit Japan through storylines involving supporting characters. According to Netflix, season two will see Mizu facing new challenges and enemies in London while battling her own inner struggles. Back in Japan, Akemi and Taigen find themselves navigating a treacherous political landscape under a new Shogun, and Ringo seeks a new direction in life. You can find a first look at the season below.

Blue Eye Samurai Will Return

Following the first season of Blue Eye Samurai, creators Michael Green and Amber Noizumi hinted at Mizu’s next destination: London. Noizumi explained that while the setting will change, Mizu’s core mission will remain focused on revenge. She believes at least two of the men she’s hunting are located in London, and some characters previously thought dead may still be alive.

As of today, Netflix hasn’t announced whether Blue Eye Samurai will return this year. The show’s creators have explained that the animation is a complex and time-consuming process. Since its release, the series has received significant recognition, winning awards from the American Cinema Editors, the Annie Awards, the Emmys, and the Artios Awards. It was also nominated for awards at the Astra TV Awards and the Peabody Awards, demonstrating strong positive reactions from both critics and audiences. While a second season could bring even more accolades, the creators have expressed interest in continuing Mizu’s story for a total of three seasons, and potentially even exploring spin-off ideas. Ultimately, only time will tell how far Netflix decides to take the series.
