Even though the second season of the Blue Lock anime faced some criticism in 2024, the series remains incredibly popular. The manga, which began in 2018, has become a huge success, selling over 50 million copies worldwide. It quickly gained recognition, winning a Kodansha Manga Award in 2021 and receiving praise from both critics and fans. In 2023, following the anime’s release, Blue Lock became the best-selling manga of the year, even outselling popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece. Still ongoing, new chapters of the manga, created by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, are released weekly in Weekly Shonen Magazine.
The series centers around Isagi Yoichi, a talented soccer player who’s selected for Blue Lock, a unique training program. Three hundred of the nation’s best high school strikers are brought together and isolated to compete for a single spot. Although details about the Blue Lock anime are still upcoming, a live-action movie is planned for release in Japan during the summer of 2026. Currently, there’s no news about whether the film will be shown in theaters outside of Japan.
Blue Lock Live-Action Film Drops First Poster

On January 25th, 2026, the official social media account for the upcoming live-action film released its first teaser, quickly gaining over 10 million views and thousands of likes. The teaser offered a sneak peek at the main characters, focusing on details like their eyes and hairstyles, especially those on Team Z. The following day, January 26th, the first poster featuring the main character, Isagi Yoichi, was revealed. The role will be played by Fumiya Takahashi, a well-known Japanese actor, voice actor, and model.
Takahashi announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he’ll be playing the character Isagi Yoichi, calling it a dream role. He expressed his deep respect for the project and his commitment to making it a success, thanks to the entire team. The movie is scheduled for release in the summer of 2026, and he’s excited for everyone to see it!
The film’s official social media account posted a message from producer Shinji Matsuhashi, who acknowledged the high expectations and potential criticism due to the series’ popularity. Actor Takahashi even trained in soccer for a year and a half to prepare for his role. Filming is now complete, but the team is still finishing up the post-production work.
I’m so excited – they’re going to be announcing more of the cast soon, especially as we get closer to the movie’s release! We know it’s coming out this summer, but they haven’t given us the specific date just yet. I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for more news!
