According to the announcement made by the CEO of Gearbox Entertainment, Randy Pitchford, we can expect the release of Borderlands 4 on October 3rd, specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2. It is worth noting that this game will be available approximately a month after its launch on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and personal computers (PC).
The price for the new Switch 2 hasn’t been revealed yet, but it won’t exclude any content, Pitchford clarified via Twitter. He mentioned that it will generally operate at about 30 frames per second, but there may be some drops during intense scenes, heavy combat sequences, or when playing co-op in handheld mode.
It’s been verified that a download is necessary, regardless if you get a physical or digital copy. However, the specific method they’ll use for physical copies, whether it’s an old-style cartridge or the new Game Key Card, remains unclear. Fortunately, crossplay functionality with other platforms will be supported.
On September 12th, Borderlands 4 is released for platforms other than Switch at a price of $69.99. The game takes place on Kairos where four new characters, Vex, Rafa, Harlowe, and Amon, who are the Vault Hunters, fight against the Timekeeper and his troops. For more information about the background story of Vex, the latest Siren, and Gearbox’s design philosophy for her character, you can find it out more.

Maintaining integrity was crucial for us, which meant avoiding any content removals. Additionally, we aim to facilitate cross-platform compatibility. Therefore, you can expect the performance to be primarily around 30 frames per second, with potential drops during intense combat sequences or when hosting multiplayer games in handheld mode, among other scenarios.

It’s a big game. There will be a download, even for physical copies.
