Brad Everett Young left a lasting mark on the people of Port Charles.
Following the death of 46-year-old actor and photographer in a Los Angeles car accident on September 14th, many of his colleagues from the television show *General Hospital* shared memories of working with him outside of filming.
Chris McKenna, who stars as Jack Brennan on the soap opera, expressed his shock on X (formerly Twitter) on September 17th. He shared that they had filmed scenes just a couple of weeks prior and had been texting over the weekend.
McKenna shared photos Young had taken of him and also wrote a touching tribute. He described Brad as a gifted, funny, and kind person who generously gave his time and talents to help schools in need. McKenna concluded by saying the world feels a little dimmer without Brad’s positive energy, and wished him peace.
Virginia native Blair Underwood started acting in the late 1990s, taking on smaller parts in popular TV shows like *Boy Meets World* and *Grey’s Anatomy*. He also appeared in films including *Charlie’s Angels* and *Jurassic Park III*.
Although he wasn’t a performer on *General Hospital*, he did photograph many of the show’s actors, along with others. Similar to McKenna, some celebrities participated in Young’s Dream Loud campaign, an initiative designed to restore music and arts programs to schools.
Actress Jen Lilley, known for her role on *General Hospital*, said she was shocked and couldn’t believe the news when she heard about Young’s passing.
Okay, so, I was scrolling through Instagram and saw that Selena posted about Taylor, and honestly, it just *melted* my heart! She called him one of her closest friends, which, duh, everyone sees their connection, but then she said he’s so much more than just everyone’s favorite photographer. Like, yes, we all love his work, but she *gets* him, you know? It’s just so sweet to see her acknowledge that he’s a truly amazing person beyond all the fame!
Lilley fondly remembered a moment with Young, recalling his playful threat that if he ever wrote an exposé, he’d make her co-author it. She said he consistently made her laugh, was the only photographer she completely trusted, and always appeared genuine in front of the camera.
I remember spending hours and hours just talking with them, about everything – life, the craziness of our work, all of it. We’d share pie and cake, reminiscing about growing up in Virginia. They loved their mom and brother so much, it was everything to them. I’m completely heartbroken and honestly, I don’t even have the words to express how I feel. It’s going to take a long time to truly accept they’re gone.
Parry Shen, known for his role as Brad Cooper on *General Hospital*, described Young as one of the nicest and most giving people he’s ever encountered.
He noted that what really set this person apart in a often-cynical industry was their unwavering optimism. They consistently focused on finding solutions and improving things, rather than getting caught up in negativity, as he shared on Facebook on September 17th.
The actor recalls Young’s kindness also benefiting his career. He shared that Young never accepted payment for taking his photos, always volunteered to help with event setup, and genuinely wanted to support his and others’ professional growth. The actor described Young’s enthusiasm when suggesting creative photoshoot ideas as infectious.
The soap opera actor described Young’s passing as a devastating loss, saying that anyone who had the chance to meet him at their events would understand. He finished with a heartfelt ‘Rest in peace, friend’.
