Brassic Star’s Secret Plans For Season 3!

What was your reaction when Danny Dyer won the Best Male Performance in a Comedy at the BAFTAs for Mr. Bigstuff and thanked you during his acceptance speech?

Upon his victory, we simply embraced, and I could sense our mutual trembling. To me, he’s evolved into something akin to a big brother figure. Many are unaware of the true essence he embodies. He’s incredibly caring and watchful, always ensuring my well-being. Despite my jitters and restlessness, he acknowledges this and strives to keep me at ease.

The series is loosely based on your family. How did they react to the first series?

The show incorporates numerous subtle nods to my personal family life. For instance, in the first season, an egg cup that resembles the one my mom adored appears, and it’s the exact same egg cup I had at home. This unique monk-shaped egg cup might seem insignificant, but it holds a special meaning for me. Since my writing can sometimes be challenging or confronting, I was apprehensive about how it would be received; however, I believe they recognize that expressing my emotions is something I do best through storytelling.

What can we expect from series two?

Given my busy schedule on the Brassic set, I had a tight deadline of just four and a half months to complete it. Normally, more time is required for such work, but due to my commitment, I ended up writing day in and day out, even weekends, for several months. It was quite taxing, pushing myself to the limit. Honestly, it was tough, very tough. Yet, ironically, this season turned out to be better than expected. It’s noticeably crazier with each episode featuring a major, wild segment. I feel like I’m embracing what amuses, puzzles, and intrigues me most. Is that not a strange paradox? However, the result is definitely an improvement.

What was it like being back on set with Danny?

This occasion felt more like a pleasant dream compared to the previous one, as I wasn’t plagued by the same level of anxiety. You see, when you’re creating something and filming it, there are countless possibilities for things to go awry each day. It’s a constant juggling act for everyone involved. However, returning for a second series transformed the experience from a petrifying rollercoaster ride into an enjoyable adventure.

Did you watch Danny in Rivals?

I took in every bit of it, and I believe both he and Katherine Parkinson were the standouts. The series features numerous charming and roguish characters, but their roles are genuinely endearing. Some performers seem to lack depth, but these two feel incredibly authentic, as if they’re living the part in the present moment. Having actors who can achieve that is truly enchanting.

And have there been any conversations about a third season of Mr Bigstuff?

I’m already coming up with ideas. We’ve got a kind of trajectory of where it goes. But we’ll see!
