Emma Atkins hinted that it might be possible for her character Charity Dingle on Emmerdale to rekindle things with her former fiancé, Vanessa Woodfield (portrayed by Michelle Hardwick).
Having split from Vanessa in 2020, Charity is currently married to Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb).
However, the couple were on the brink of a critical juncture, as Mack uncovers that Charity had agreed to act as a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden (played by Katie Hill), without first informing him.
After Sarah had a hysterectomy as treatment for cervical cancer, events took an unexpected turn. Meanwhile, Charity’s bold idea threatens to rock her marriage, while Vanessa re-enters the plot as Sarah’s original ally in discussing her IVF plans.

In their shared scenes, there’s often the chance for renewed connection or reconciliation. They mesh so naturally as friends, there’s always a hint of something more between them. This is how she put it.
In soap operas, characters can be unpredictable from one scene to another, and it’s always a pleasure to collaborate with Michelle.
In any case, it will turn out beneficial, regardless of whether their relationship blossoms into something more or remains as a strong friendship. This friendship already exists, so who knows what might develop further.
The actress mentioned that she isn’t certain if ‘Vanity’ will come back at some point, but it’s apparent that a channel for conversation will remain open between Charity and Vanessa.
At the current point, I’m unsure about their plans for the duo. However, I sense a potential development due to the conversations exchanged between them. The content of these discussions, though, remains unclear to me.
Regarding Mack, his pain originates from Charity’s earlier choice not to bear his child – a decision she took following an ectopic pregnancy that occurred prior to their marriage.
Not long afterwards, Mack became involved with Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland), which resulted in the birth of their son, Reuben. Unfortunately, Mack has been prevented from spending time with him since then.
Following their difficult separation, Mack and Charity reconciled, with Mack understanding that Charity had no desire for further children. However, learning that she’s prepared to bear a child for Sarah comes as a painful surprise.

According to Atkins, Mack seems to be standing on the periphery. He appears to be more of a spectator, watching events unfold that are beyond his influence.
Without a doubt, since she concealed it and decided to undergo psychological tests on her own, without his awareness.
It seems quite disingenuous, if not downright dishonest, not to talk about something important before marriage.
Does the star think that Charity and Mack’s marriage can survive this massive setback?
Thinking about all the challenges it’s facing, including the secret child with Chloe, I believe it has the resilience to endure and stand up to this level of stress over time.
“But then sometimes you go ‘something’s got to give, here’. How much more can they actually take?'”
