Season four of Bridgerton is coming soon, and Netflix has made a significant update to the character Sophie Baek. Inspired by Sophie Beckett from An Offer from a Gentleman, the character—played by Yerin Ha—will be the romantic interest for Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) in the next part of the popular, sensual series.
Inspired by the classic Cinderella tale, Sophie and Benedict’s love story unfolds within the world of Bridgerton during the Regency era, overseen by Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel). While the story might appear straightforward, the popular series will be reimagining the 2001 novel for television, releasing in two parts with four episodes each in January and February 2026. Interestingly, one of the biggest changes is surprisingly understated.
In Bridgerton Season 4‘s Trailer, Sophie Is An Active Participant In Her Cinderella Transformation
She’s More Involved In The Masquerade Ball Scheme
The new trailer for Bridgerton season 4 shows Sophie Baek planning to sneak into the Bridgerton masquerade ball. After complaining to her colleagues that her stepmother, Araminta (Katie Leung), and stepsisters, Rosamund (Michelle Mao) and Posy (Isabella Wei), wouldn’t approve, Sophie starts making plans for her secret visit, stressing how important a disguise will be.
The new video clip differs significantly from the book, where Sophie was shocked by her colleagues’ behavior. In the novel, she was hesitant about attending the ball and needed help from a magical figure to get ready. However, this version of Sophie in Bridgerton has a much bolder personality, which could lead to some interesting developments.
Why Bridgerton Season 4’s Sophie Change Is Exactly What The Series Needs
Sophie Was A Passive Player In An Offer From A Gentleman
Okay, so I’ve got some thoughts on Sophie’s arc in the upcoming Bridgerton season. If the way she’s approaching the ball is anything to go by, this version of Sophie is going to be a lot more interesting than the one from the book. Honestly, in An Offer from a Gentleman, Sophie felt…well, a bit like things just happened to her. She was pretty passive, and it often didn’t feel like she was actively driving the plot. I’m really hoping the show gives her a much more dynamic role – and based on what I’m seeing, it looks like they might!
Sophie can maintain her polite and agreeable personality, especially when dealing with difficult people like her stepmother. However, Netflix needs to develop her character more fully in the show. Modern romances, and Bridgerton in particular, shouldn’t rely on outdated and simplistic tropes like helpless heroines.
How Making Sophie More Autonomous Will Improve Bridgerton Season 4’s Romance
She And Benedict Have Always Been A Fan-Favorite Pair
MovieStillsDB
Ever since the show first appeared on Netflix in 2020, Benedict has become a fan favorite among the Bridgerton siblings. Because of this, viewers have been eagerly waiting to see his love story unfold. The show has already made changes to the original material, such as establishing Benedict as bisexual in season 3, and his ideal partner should have a storyline that allows for similar creative exploration.
Sophie’s character has the potential to add depth and complexity to the simplest storyline in Bridgerton if she’s given more strength and independence. Letting Sophie overcome her vulnerability and helplessness would also create a more balanced relationship with Benedict. While there’s still a chance Bridgerton season 4 could mismanage her character, the trailer offers a hopeful glimpse of what’s to come.
