This story contains spoilers for part two of Bridgerton season four.
Bridgerton’s creative team still burns for Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page.
After Regé-Jean Page left his role as Simon Basset following season one, and Phoebe Dynevor finished playing Daphne Bridgerton after season three, the show’s creator, Jess Brownell, stated that they won’t be recasting those characters or continuing their stories with new actors.
As a huge fan of the show, I was so relieved to hear the creator say they have absolutely no plans to recast the leads! In a recent interview, she explained that it would feel wrong to replace Regé and Phoebe, especially after all the amazing work they did building those characters in the first season. It’s great to know they respect what Regé and Phoebe brought to the show and won’t try to recreate it with new actors.
The producer of Inventing Anna said Phoebe, 30, and Regé, 38, could return in future seasons if the storyline calls for it.
She added that they’d be happy to have the actors return in the future, but only when they have a substantial role for them. A brief appearance, like a single line at a funeral just to show they were present, wouldn’t feel appropriate for several reasons.
Simon and Daphne weren’t seen in much of the second part of Bridgerton’s fourth season, which premiered on February 26th, especially during the scenes surrounding John Stirling (Victor Alli)’s funeral – the husband of Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd). However, their absence on screen doesn’t mean they weren’t actually there; they simply weren’t shown attending the event.

You know, it really bothers me when people think what you see on screen is everything. Like, Jess said, the camera just can’t get it all, right? It’s TV! It implies things, it doesn’t show everything. It’s just… frustrating that people don’t get that! There’s so much more happening than what they film, and it’s like, it’s supposed to be that way!
It’s still unknown if Simon and Daphne will return for future seasons of Bridgerton, but John’s death deeply affected the other characters and will likely influence the show’s storyline going forward.
Victor recently shared with Tudum that experiencing a loss changes your perspective. He explained that it creates a sense of urgency, because it makes you realize time is limited. Seeing someone pass away encourages you to take action and make choices you might otherwise put off.

While filming, Luke Thompson (who plays Benedict Bridgerton) and Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton) passed the time by playing a clapping game.

Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, and Eloise’s actress seemed very friendly and happy together while filming, suggesting a close bond between the two characters.

While filming on a cold day, Hannah Dodd (who plays Francesca Bridgerton) had some fun making funny faces with Claudia.

Victor Alli, who plays John Stirling, recently shared a humorous story about filming season four of Bridgerton.

Even when it rained during filming, the actors – including newcomers Yerin Ha as Sophie, Katie Leung as Lady Araminta Gun, Michelle Mao as Rosamund Li, and Isabella Wei as Posy Li – were prepared with umbrellas.

There were clearly no ruff moments behind the scenes.

The actors smiled for the cameras while staying warm on set, where they’re filming a romance between characters named Benedict and Sophie.
