Brie Larson recently discussed a fellow Marvel actor, noting how they often seem to portray themselves both in movies and on TV. Though her return as Carol Danvers isn’t officially confirmed until late 2026, Larson remains a key part of Marvel Studios. She’s worked alongside many of the franchise’s biggest stars, including one who is quickly gaining popularity with fans.
Brie Larson, who plays Captain Marvel, shared that Iman Vellani, the actress behind Ms. Marvel, essentially portrays herself within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking at SpaceCon in San Antonio, Texas, Larson explained that Vellani has an incredible understanding of her character – and the entire MCU, it seems! – truly embodying the role both on and off screen. Larson also praised Vellani as a genuinely kind and delightful person to work with.
She doesn’t just play Ms. Marvel – she truly embodies the character, and that’s a testament to her talent. She’s a phenomenal actress and a genuinely kind, down-to-earth person, and I cherish all the wonderful experiences I’ve had with her.
Although Larson made a brief appearance in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel starring Vellani, they didn’t share any scenes together until the 2023 film The Marvels. In that movie, they teamed up with Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau to fight Zawe Ashton’s Dar-Benn. Dar-Benn’s attempts to save her Kree people from being wiped out caused a tear in the multiverse, leading to a massive battle.
Brie Larson first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, in her own movie in 2019. She’s appeared as the character a total of five times, including in the films Avengers: Endgame and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Currently, it’s unknown when she will appear in the MCU again.
When Will Brie Larson & Iman Vellani Return to the MCU?

Currently, The Marvels is the latest live-action project for both Brie Larson and Iman Vellani. Their characters team up on Earth-616 to find Monica Rambeau, who sealed one of the dimensional tears created by Dar-Benn. Vellani also starred in the animated series Marvel Zombies in late 2025, which featured her prominently in a world overrun by zombies.
Currently, neither Brie Larson nor Iman Vellani is scheduled to appear in any Marvel Cinematic Universe projects before the Multiverse Saga concludes. However, they are both anticipated to have major roles in at least one of the next two Avengers films, which are expected to have the largest ensemble casts ever seen in a comic book movie.
Although details may have shifted during production, earlier reports suggested Kamala’s bangles would play a significant role in the upcoming Avengers film. That might no longer be true, but fans are eager to see her included, given her abilities and the importance of the bangles in The Marvels.
Given that Larson plays Carol Danvers, it’s logical for Marvel to feature one of their strongest heroes, particularly with her now back on Earth before the anticipated arrival of Doctor Doom and his multiversal threat.
With the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe still unfolding, Iman Vellani and Brie Larson are likely to play significant roles as the franchise continues to grow and evolve.
