Actor Ricky Tomlinson, known for his roles on Brookside, will once again take on his character as the soap series prepares to come back on TV later in the year, generating much excitement.

For the 30th anniversary of Hollyoaks in October, there will be a unique collaboration episode where cameras will revisit the cul-de-sac.

Trade unionist Bobby Grant, played by Tomlinson, is set to come back. He’ll share the screen with Sue Johnston, who recently announced she would resume her character as Sheila, his on-screen spouse.

In a statement, Tomlinson expressed his delight at the prospect of returning to Brookside and working with Sue Johnston once more. He’s eagerly anticipating being back on the Close again after so many years have passed.

The Grant family have been an integral part of Brookside since its inception, often serving as the focus for significant plotlines throughout the series. Notably, they were involved in Sheila’s pioneering portrayal of sexual assault in 1986 – one of the earliest representations of rape on British soap operas – and also experienced the tragic event of their son Damon’s fatal stabbing in 1987.

Regrettably, the series of misfortunies created tension within their relationship, leading Bobby to part ways with both Sheila and the show in 1988. Two years after that, Sheila also decided to leave.

In addition to Tomlinson and Johnston, it’s been confirmed that John McArdle and Paul Usher will rejoin the cast. They are set to portray their original characters, Billy Corkhill and Barry Grant, in the upcoming production.
