Bruce Willis’ Wife Emma Reveals Hardest Decision Amid Dementia Battle

Emma Heming Willis is doing what is best for her family.

As the model delves further into Bruce Willis‘ struggle with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), she disclosed that the action star resides with full-time caregivers, maintaining a separate living arrangement from his family.

Emma, who has daughters Mabel Willis, 13, and Evelyn Willis, 11, with Bruce, stated during ABC’s August 26 special, “Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey,” that the decision was incredibly difficult for her. However, she believed it was crucial, considering above all else, Bruce would have wanted our daughters to be in a home better suited to their requirements rather than his own.

Despite not residing permanently at the single-story house with Bruce, she made it clear that they spend a considerable amount of time there.

She mused, “That place holds a special spot in our hearts; it’s where the girls keep their belongings.” It’s a dwelling brimming with affection, warmth, care, and joy. Witnessing this – watching as many of Bruce’s companions still visit him – has been truly enchanting, as they inject vitality and amusement into the scene.

In the course of my daily interactions, I’m fortunate to host visits from a delightful group that includes Emma, Mabel, Evelyn, my former spouse Demi Moore, and our wonderful daughters Rumer Willis (age 36), Scout Willis (age 33), and Tallulah Willis (age 31). It’s always a joy to have them around.

Despite the fact that the Willis family have now adapted well to their new lifestyle, their adaptation wasn’t effortless. Specifically for Emma, the onset of dementia made her feel lonely, and unintentionally, this loneliness impacted their daughters.

She remembered feeling that our family’s experiences, along with Bruce’s, were quite unique in their nature. Her concern extended to ensuring our home was safe and secure at all times, which meant being mindful of appliances like the stove, freezer, and refrigerator, and their respective doors.

To avoid disturbing patients with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) due to the potential impact of loud noises, she opted to discontinue hosting playdates and overnight stays at their residence.

She shared that there was uncertainty about whether parents would feel safe entrusting their child to her home, given the circumstances. Not only did she find herself in seclusion, but she intentionally kept everyone at home isolated as well. The girls were also included in this isolation, which was self-imposed. This period was particularly challenging for everyone involved. It was a very difficult time indeed.

As someone who’s been battling depression, I can honestly say that my life has taken a turn for the better. Through seeking professional help and beginning treatment, I’ve learned to appreciate the small joys in life more than ever before.

In his presence, he seems radiant, as if he brings light wherever he goes,” she clarified. “We find ourselves holding hands, exchanging affectionate kisses, and embracing him warmly. He responds eagerly, showing clear interest in us too.

She concluded, “That’s quite sufficient for me.” She made it clear that she didn’t require him to be aware she was his wife, as they had tied the knot on this particular day. Extras weren’t necessary in her view. What she truly yearned for was a sense of connection with him, and fortunately, she already felt that bond.
