Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s Eliza Dushku Discusses Why She’s ‘Grateful’ For The Show Over 25 Years Later

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a hugely popular and critically acclaimed TV show, often considered one of the greatest supernatural dramas aimed at teens. The show, currently available on Hulu, continues to attract viewers, and Sarah Michelle Gellar is set to return as Buffy in a new series called New Sunnydale. Eliza Dushku, who previously played Faith Lehane on both Buffy and its spin-off, Angel, recently shared how thankful she still is for her time working on the Joss Whedon shows.

Despite controversies surrounding Joss Whedon and these shows, fans continue to enjoy the horror comedy series. Eliza Dushku is particularly memorable as Faith, known as the Bad Slayer. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Bring It On actress shared her continued affection for Buffy, explaining:

My nieces and nephews grew up watching Buffy, and it was a big part of their coming-of-age experience, just like it was for so many others. It really helped people navigate the challenges of high school and figuring out who they are. I’m incredibly thankful to have been a part of something so impactful and meaningful. Buffy is truly iconic and continues to connect with people on a deep level. It’s amazing to realize that my work on the show provided comfort and healing for so many, and in a way, I was already involved in work that helped people cope with life’s difficulties.

Isn’t that lovely? Beyond the many fans who connected with the classic ’90s show Buffy, Dushku has personally witnessed family members relating to the series as well. The adventures of the Scooby Gang – battling monsters and creatures – often reflected the challenges of growing up.

Around the middle of Season 3, Faith emerged as a standout villain on Buffy, facing off against Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character before the season’s end. She reappeared in Seasons 5 and 7, and also made guest appearances on Angel. Over time, Faith found redemption, ultimately fighting alongside the heroes against the First Evil in the show’s final episodes.

You can watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel on Hulu! New and some returning customers can try the service free for 30 days. After the trial, plans start at $9.99 per month. See the deal here.

The ending of Buffy the Vampire Slayer left the door open for a new series, and fans are eager to know which original cast members might appear alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar. However, it’s unlikely Eliza Dushku will be among them. She recently shared that she’s lost her strong desire to act, explaining that:

I’m not planning on being on camera again unless it’s for a project I truly care about. That’s what makes this film so meaningful – it allows me to share the stories of people like Marcus and Amber, who are featured in it. It’s a really important story that needs to reach as many people as possible.

So, despite being involved behind the scenes as an executive producer on the new documentary In Waves and War, Dushku doesn’t appear to be planning a return to acting. That’s disappointing news for Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans who were hoping to see Faith again in the upcoming Hulu series. Hopefully, we’ll still find out what she’s up to, even if she remains retired.

You can now watch both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel on Hulu. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, fans are eagerly awaiting the new Buffy series, and it’s uncertain if it will appear on TV as early as 2026.
