According to reports, Bungie’s new multiplayer shooter, Marathon, won’t be featured in this week’s State of Play presentation.
For months, the studio has avoided talking about its game after it was discovered that many of its art assets were copied from other sources. This followed a very damaging reveal about the plagiarism.
As a big fan, I was pretty bummed when Marathon got delayed. It turned out Bungie had to really dig into some issues back in May, and a month after that, they announced the game didn’t have a release date anymore. It seemed like they needed to do a full check of everything before moving forward.
There were reports of significant problems with the game’s development, and some people even worried it might be canceled.
Bungie has had a difficult time getting the Marathon project off the ground, and a recent Forbes article suggests they aren’t prepared to release it yet.
The studio had announced plans to share updates with fans this fall, but it doesn’t appear this upcoming State of Play presentation is where they’ll be doing that.
Bungie is quietly testing updates to the game with a closed alpha, working to improve it based on previous feedback. The initial alpha test for Marathon received a lot of criticism, so the development team is eager to demonstrate significant progress.
Were you looking forward to seeing Marathon played this week? What do you think of this criticized player? Share your thoughts cautiously in the comments below.
