Bungled Betrayal Leads to Shocking WWE Championship Win

Unexpected twists are common in WWE, and we’ve seen a few developing lately across all its shows. These aren’t always simple ‘good guy turns bad,’ though – things get especially messy when championships are involved. That was definitely the case tonight, as a failed attempt at betrayal surprisingly led to a major victory and a new WWE Champion.

Halloween Havoc featured several championship matches in WWE NXT, but the Women’s Championship bout stood out. Jacy Jayne, representing Fatal Influence, tried to hold onto her title against Tatum Paxley from The Culling, and the match was full of exciting near-falls and dramatic moments. The finish came when Izzi Dame interfered, seemingly to help Jayne, but accidentally struck her instead. This unexpected turn of events allowed Paxley to capitalize and win the championship, becoming the new WWE NXT Women’s Champion.

Jayne started strong, quickly gaining control of the match by securing a wrist lock and following up with a shoulder tackle on Paxley. She then skillfully avoided Paxley’s predictable attack with a senton. After some playful taunting, Jayne was briefly knocked down by her opponent, narrowly avoiding a pin.

Jayne maintained an initial advantage, but Paxley eventually took over, inflicting serious back damage with a prolonged submission hold. Paxley then hit Jayne with a powerful kick while she was down. Jayne attempted to corner Paxley outside the ring, but Paxley escaped and circled around for a surprise attack. However, the maneuver failed, and Jayne instead forcefully slammed Paxley’s face into the metal supports under the ring.

The match looked rough, and Jayne quickly tried to pin Paxley, but Paxley managed to kick out. While the referee wasn’t looking, Fatal Influence attacked Paxley, and Jayne attempted another quick pin, but Paxley kicked out again. Though struggling, Paxley fought back, escaping another pin attempt. She then turned the tables, performing a belly-to-back suplex on Jayne, giving herself a chance to recover.

Jayne successfully executed a neckbreaker on Paxley while he was on the top rope, but the pinfall attempt was stopped when Shawn Spears grabbed Paxley’s foot and placed it on the bottom rope. A fight then erupted between the members of Fatal Influence and The Culling around the ring, and the referee ultimately ejected everyone involved from the ringside area.

The two wrestlers faced off, and the match was full of exciting near misses. Paxley was sent reeling into the corner, but she cleverly avoided an attack and countered with a rolling encore on Jayne. Paxley then climbed to the top rope and executed a 450 splash, attempting a pin, but Jayne managed to kick out. Jayne tried for a powerful kick, but Paxley almost surprised her with a quick roll-up, leading to a flurry of punches and kicks in the ring’s center.

The Culling returned, and a surprising turn of events unfolded as Dame appeared to betray Paxley, snatching the Championship title right off the display stand. She rushed into the ring with the title, but Jayne quickly kicked her, allowing Paxley to defeat Jayne and become the new WWE NXT Women’s Champion. The crowd went wild, and Dame looked visibly upset. While Dame tried to sabotage Paxley, this victory is a huge moment for a beloved NXT competitor, and fans will be watching to see when Dame attempts another betrayal.
