Screenshots have emerged online showing a canceled God of War game that PlayStation had in development. Earlier this year, Sony decided to halt work on the project, which was surprisingly being created by Bluepoint Games as a multiplayer, ongoing service game. While some fans thought canceling it was the right move, many were curious about what the game would have been like. Now, thanks to these leaked images, we’re getting a first look.
Images have surfaced, originally shared by MP1st, showing what appears to be an unreleased God of War game. The screenshots primarily showcase environments that were planned for the game, which would have been set in the Greek era of the series – before the move to Norse mythology. While the images don’t reveal much detail, they offer a glimpse of what could have been.

Recently, screenshots have surfaced that are claimed to be from a cancelled multiplayer God of War game developed by Bluepoint Games, set in ancient Greece. The game was likely intended as a prequel to God of War III. However, Sony reportedly lost faith in the project’s potential and cancelled it in January 2025.

Details about this unreleased God of War game remain scarce. Reports suggest it would have taken place before the events of God of War 3, with the Greek god Hades featuring prominently. It’s unclear whether players would have controlled Kratos, or if the game would have focused on new characters.
At the very least, this game proves PlayStation is still interested in making God of War stories that take place in the past. This is especially interesting because there’s been a lot of talk recently about a new God of War game returning to Greece, and it might be announced soon. We can’t be sure if the rumors are true, but PlayStation could potentially share a big reveal before the end of 2025.
