Cartoon Network is now a leading channel for original animated shows. Over the years, this network-owned by Warner Bros.-has been instrumental in launching popular blocks like Adult Swim and Toonami, and has introduced audiences to beloved series such as Powerpuff Girls, Adventure Time, Regular Show, and many more. Sadly, despite the network’s continued success, a significant physical location connected to Cartoon Network is about to close. The Cartoon Network Hotel initially launched in 2020, featuring more than 150 rooms themed around the Warner Bros. entertainment universe. The hotel offered an immersive experience with decorations inspired by the cable network, plus a focus on merchandise, characters in costume, arcades, and other attractions. However, it’s now been announced that the Cartoon Network Hotel will be transformed into Dutch Wonderland, meaning all traces of the cable network will be gone starting January 1st of next year. In a conversation with ABC, Dutch Wonderland’s General Manager, Megan Hartman, discussed the changes, which will be fully implemented when the hotel re-opens in March 2026.
When we planned the Dutch Wonderland Inn, our main goal was to capture the fun of our park and offer a comfortable place for guests to stay overnight. The recently updated Inn combines elements of our cherished park, the Pennsylvania Dutch Countryside, and the characters everyone loves, creating a special experience for families wanting to enjoy a longer trip to the Lancaster area.
Cartoon Network’s Past And Future
The announcement of the Cartoon Network hotel is somewhat ironic, arriving thirty-three years after the cable network originally debuted on television today. Over those years, Warner Bros has significantly broadened the scope of animation. A major part of that expansion has been the launch of Adult Swim, the block of programming for mature audiences which has become a television staple with hit original series like Rick & Morty, The Smiling Friends, Primal, and many others.
Predicting what’s next for Cartoon Network is difficult, especially with streaming becoming so dominant and significantly impacting traditional cable TV. Fortunately, Warner Bros has consistently collaborated with streaming platforms like HBO Max and Hulu, giving viewers multiple options for accessing their popular shows and movies. Currently, Cartoon Network is celebrating the spooky season with another “Scoobtober,” a continuing event dedicated to the Scooby-Doo franchise, featuring its various series and films. While the Cartoon Network Hotel has closed, we’re hoping to see the brand find new ways to connect with fans in the real world in the future.
