Cartoon Network Revival Runs Into Problems, Says Creator

In recent years, Warner Bros. Animation has faced difficulties on HBO Max, particularly as key shows from their past on Cartoon Network have been leaving the platform. One such show that became a notable loss was “The Infinity Train.” Although there’s no definitive news of its revival yet, creator Owen Dennis has shared that there is interest in bringing it back, but progress has encountered some obstacles. Fans are eagerly waiting for any sign of its return under the guidance of the original architect.

It’s been reported that Dennis confirmed that popular studios were aiming to revive Infinity Train last month alone, with these same studios also planning to release new physical copies of the series, which spanned four seasons. However, Warner Bros has yet to confirm any details about a potential return for the show as of this writing, leaving animation enthusiasts curious about what might be causing the delay. After being taken off HBO Max in August 2022, Infinity Train was also removed from iTunes and Amazon the following year. Although the creator has shared episodes of the beloved animated series online previously, watching it now is more challenging than before.

The Infinity Train Has Left The Station

2020 saw Owen Dennis expressing his aspirations to extend the canceled animated series for eight seasons during an interview with iO9. More precisely, Dennis mentioned that they had preliminary concepts for storylines and characters to carry on until season eight. He found eight seasons as a fitting stop since the number resembles an infinity symbol.

During that same interview, I observed Dennis expressing his conviction that the stigma surrounding animation persists even today. He passionately argued that we have the potential to elevate animation beyond its current comedic realm and into a more sophisticated dimension for mature audiences. If the public could come to terms with the fact that comic books aren’t exclusively meant for kids, then they might also realize that animation isn’t either. The studio that manages to create a show or film that successfully breaks this barrier and conveys this message will, in essence, have created their own Marvel.

After the unexpected removal of “Infinity Train” from HBO Max, Dennis expressed his disappointment about the move on social media. He stated that neither he nor any other show creators he’s spoken with were aware of this decision, nor were their representatives. Since then, people have been working tirelessly to understand the situation. This lack of organization has led us here. It was advised by Cartoon Network that they shouldn’t make this move as it would damage relationships with creators and talent, but it seems they don’t seem to care about how this looks publicly or how we feel about it.

The charm of “Infinity Train” didn’t just lie in its distinctive animation and well-developed characters, but rather the structure of its seasons. Unlike other shows where the focus remains on the initial character from season one, this Cartoon Network series shifted to different main characters as each new season began. This opens up a wealth of possibilities for potential future seasons if such a time arises.
