Okay, so Dunk was all confident that he and Egg could travel anywhere in the Seven Kingdoms, but Egg had to correct him – there are actually nine kingdoms! I was totally surprised, and Dunk definitely was too. Then, the opening credits flashed up with a new title: A Knight of the Nine Kingdoms. It was a funny moment, but honestly, I can’t imagine that name will last. It just doesn’t feel right, and it would be a marketing disaster! It really highlights why everyone still calls it the Seven Kingdoms – it’s the name people know and remember, and it’s stuck around for a reason.

The first episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms largely focuses on Ser Duncan the Tall and Maekar Targaryen as they grapple with their involvement in Baelor’s death. Similar to the season finales of early Game of Thrones seasons, this episode is more about resolving loose ends and hinting at future storylines than big, shocking moments, although it does include a couple of surprising reveals: Dunk wasn’t officially knighted by Ser Arlan of Pennytree, and Egg runs away with Dunk without his father knowing.

The story’s ending focuses on the aftermath of Baelor Targaryen’s death and everyone getting ready to leave after the funeral. Dunk bids farewell to people like Lyonel Baratheon and Raymun Fossoway, politely refusing an invitation from Lyonel to join him at Storm’s End. However, he won’t be parting ways with Egg.

The final scene includes one last look back at Dunk’s time with Ser Arlan. We see a tradition where young knights heading into battle would hammer a penny into the tree near their homes – this is how Pennytree got its name. This is also where Arlan dies, setting the stage for the beginning of the show. Most importantly, the scene reveals that Duncan the Tall was never officially knighted, a secret long suspected by fans of the books.

As a huge Nintendo fan, I’m really excited to see that two of the top games of 2026, according to Metacritic, are Switch exclusives! They’re called Perfect Tides: Station to Station and Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, and while they aren’t huge, AAA titles – they’re priced at just $20 and $25 – everyone seems to be loving them. Both critics and players are giving them really good scores, which is awesome!
