As a lifelong Star Trek fan, I’ve always admired Patrick Stewart’s work, especially his portrayal of Jean-Luc Picard in The Next Generation, Picard, and the Star Trek films. I was deeply moved by his performances, and the recent news that he won’t be reprising the role is particularly upsetting.
Shudder and Independent Film Company are teaming up again to release the upcoming slasher film, River, in U.S. theaters. Currently in post-production, River marks the directorial debut of Joshua Giuliano and stars popular horror actresses Jessica Rothe and Jane Levy. Shudder will also be shopping for international distribution deals at the AFM market through Upgrade.
According to FlixPatrol, the Mel Gibson film Fatman is currently the second most popular movie on Paramount+ in the United States. It’s not immediately clear why Fatman is performing so well, but it recently became available on the streaming service on November 1st. This new availability, combined with the approaching holidays, may be encouraging more people to watch it.
Warner Bros. recently began promoting its new film, Superman, directed by James Gunn, for awards consideration. While an awards campaign doesn’t guarantee nominations or wins, it shows the studio has confidence in the film and is proud of the work done by the director and cast.

Although the show generally received positive feedback, it was canceled after two seasons, partly due to the lack of success with its accompanying card game. The final 15 episodes weren’t broadcast on TV and were only available online. While Huntik has largely been forgotten, it still has a small but loyal following.

Netflix has stopped reporting “monthly active users” (MAU), a common measurement in streaming, and is now focusing on “monthly active viewers” (MAV) instead. MAV counts subscribers who watch at least one minute of advertising on Netflix each month, taking into account how many people in a household are watching. Netflix recently announced it has over 190 million monthly active viewers on its ad-supported plan using this new metric.
