While Pluribus introduces alien elements into what is otherwise a realistic world, the virus is so widespread that it’s impossible to overlook. The writers have skillfully made this unusual world feel normal, but a seemingly unimportant comment in the episode “Charm Offensive” dramatically reminds us that this is still a science fiction story, especially as the first season comes to a close.
