Celebrity Traitors star reveals Ricky Gervais turned down show after realising key issue – and he may have been proven right

Joe Wilkinson and Joe Marler came up with a fascinating idea about who ‘The Big Dog’ was, and it seems a celebrity actually figured it out before the show even started.

Jonathan Ross, who was ultimately revealed as a Traitor and eliminated from the show, has said that Ricky Gervais declined an invitation to be on The Celebrity Traitors because of the possibility of being voted off.

On his podcast, Reel Talk, Ross revealed that Ricky Gervais contacted him after Ross appeared on the show The Traitors. Gervais was reportedly considered as a potential contestant for the program.

He explained he wasn’t participating because he believed if he went in, the others would likely target him as a significant threat. They’d probably vote him out simply because of his public profile outside of the competition.

“So he nailed the Big Dog theory. And I said, “Well, you were right.'”

A popular theory emerged during the game, proposed by Marler and Wilkinson, that Stephen Fry was intentionally positioned as a Faithful player, while Jonathan Ross was meant to be a Traitor. It took a while to confirm this, as Jonathan Ross remained in the game for a significant period before his true role was revealed.

Ultimately, Alan Carr, playing the role of the Traitor, successfully deceived the Faithful and won the game. This earned his chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK, a donation of £87,500.

The Celebrity Traitors is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
