Chainsaw Man Fans Breath Sigh of Relief Following The Movie’s Successful Arrival

Chainsaw Man stands out among the many series published in Weekly Shonen Jump, and it’s more than just its action and mature themes. Creator Tatsuki Fujimoto has been developing the story of Denji and the devil hunters for years, but while popular, it hasn’t reached the same massive success as series like One Piece and Dragon Ball. Sales and the anime adaptation haven’t been top performers until recently, with the new movie, Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc, giving fans renewed hope for the series’ future.

North American anime fans will be able to see *Chainsaw Man The Movie* in theaters starting October 24th, but it’s already been released in Japan. On its first day, the film sold over 270,000 tickets in Japan, earning about $2.8 million. While this isn’t as high as the opening day numbers for *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle*, it’s still a solid start. Considering the manga and anime haven’t been as popular as some other major action series, many are curious if MAPPA will continue making *Chainsaw Man* content after the movie.

We don’t expect *Chainsaw Man* to surpass *Demon Slayer’s* newest movie in North American box office numbers, but it will be fascinating to see how well it performs. Interestingly, the *Chainsaw Man* manga has actually sold better in the United States than it has in Japan. However, whether this success guarantees a second season of the anime is still uncertain.

Speaking of Chainsaw Man Season 2

Earlier this year, we at egmr.ru spoke with Manabu Otsuka, the president of MAPPA, about the future of Chainsaw Man. He explained that they haven’t yet decided whether to continue the series with full-length movies or another season of the TV show. Otsuka said they’ll evaluate the next story arc – similar to how they handled the Reze arc – and decide the best format, whether a film or a new season, but a decision hasn’t been made yet.

If MAPPA continues animating the story of Denji, they’ll have plenty of content to work with for years to come. The author, Tatsuki Fujimoto, is still actively developing the series, even adding a new main character, Asa Mikata. As Chainsaw Man tackles increasingly complex and controversial themes, it will be fascinating to see where the series goes from here.
