The new movie, Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc, is now playing in North America. It features a battle between the Chainsaw Devil and a dangerous new enemy, the Bomb Devil. Meanwhile, Denji is caught in a complicated love triangle. Though he doesn’t gain any new powers in this film, Denji discovers his existing abilities are much greater than he realized, and you can find out what those are without even going to the cinema.
Please be aware that the following contains spoilers for Chainsaw Man: The Reze Arc. In the movie, Reze is revealed to be the Bomb Devil, creating a difficult situation for Denji, who is developing feelings for her while also trying to survive. Because people fear bombs, Reze is incredibly powerful and manages to seriously injure the Chainsaw Devil. This forces Denji to come up with a new strategy, realizing chainsaws can be used for more than just direct attacks.
One particularly funny moment shows Denji discovering he has complete control over his chainsaw powers – even the individual chains. Beam, the Shark Devil, jokingly predicts Denji will swing around the city like a superhero using his chains, but Denji surprises everyone. Instead, he wraps a chain around Beam’s mouth and uses him as a mount to battle the Bomb and Typhoon Devils. As these two devils team up to try and steal Denji’s heart, he begins to unlock increasingly creative and unexpected uses for his devil powers.
Chainsaw Man’s New Powers
Denji doesn’t have the same acrobatic style as Spider-Man, but during his fight with the Bomb Devil, he uses chains in place of his arms, similar to how Spider-Man uses webs. This new ability helps him defeat the main villain. However, even though he wins the battle, Denji is deeply hurt by Reze’s betrayal, leaving him emotionally broken.
The anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man is likely to showcase even more powerful and varied abilities for its characters. While Studio MAPPA hasn’t officially announced a second season or movie yet, the film’s success suggests we’ll definitely see more Chainsaw Man content in the future. The anime has only covered a small portion of the extensive manga series by Tatsuki Fujimoto, so fans can anticipate many more seasons of thrilling action to come.
