The first season of the anime Chainsaw Man premiered in 2022, bringing a unique and violent story to anime viewers. Following the trend of many anime series, the adaptation by creator Tatsuki Fujimoto opted for a movie to continue the narrative. Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc, released in 2025 and introducing characters like Reze and the Bomb Devil, faced strong competition in the anime film landscape. However, Chainsaw Man’s first movie stands out as a truly original offering this year.
I watched Chainsaw Man The Movie, and it picks up right after the first season ended. We see Denji trying to live a normal life, which mostly means getting rid of devils for the government. He’s living with Aki and Power, and surprisingly, he actually manages to get a date with his boss, Makima! They seem to be connecting over a movie night when things get complicated. A new girl, Reze, shows up and instantly falls for Denji, leaving him torn between her and Makima. And just when things couldn’t get any more hectic, the Bomb Devil arrives to throw even more chaos into the mix.
The Reze Arc is a thrilling movie that successfully combines a captivating love story with incredibly dynamic and visually stunning fight scenes. Studio MAPPA has truly outdone itself with this release, delivering animation that’s often innovative and bold. While newcomers might be a little lost – the movie assumes you’re familiar with the character Denji and events from the first season – it still tells a complete and exciting story that complements the original series perfectly.

Reze: Best New Anime Character of 2025
Let’s talk about Reze, a new character in the Chainsaw Man anime. We’ll avoid major spoilers, but it’s worth noting that she brings a surprisingly sweet and engaging romance to the story alongside Denji. They meet by chance on a rainy day, and their connection is charming – Denji is wonderfully innocent, while Reze is very focused on her goals. It’s interesting to see if the Chainsaw Devil can find love in return.
Reze is a standout anime character in 2025, instantly likable thanks to her cheerful nature and surprising versatility. She’s a great addition to the movie, seamlessly shifting between different moods and genres—romance, comedy, horror, and action—and plays a crucial role in its overall success.
MAPPA’s Halloween Treat
I have to admit, I was genuinely surprised by how scary Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc turned out to be. I’m a big fan of the manga, having followed Tatsuki Fujimoto’s work from the beginning, but MAPPA really managed to capture some of the creepiest parts of the Bomb Devil’s story in a way I hadn’t quite anticipated. There are some truly unsettling scenes throughout Denji’s first movie, and honestly, its release timing around Halloween felt perfect. Adapting Fujimoto’s manga panels is a challenge, but the studio found some clever ways to bring them to life, even surpassing the original source material in certain moments.
The Chainsaw Man movie features a unique narrative with two versions of Denji, creating a feeling of two separate storylines. This approach faithfully adapts the original manga. The action sequences, particularly Denji’s fight with the Bomb Devil, are incredibly intense and destructive, reminiscent of a Zack Snyder film but brought to life through anime. The movie doesn’t hold back in showing just how powerful and damaging these battles can be.
The animation of the devils is particularly impressive. MAPPA brilliantly brings these bizarre and terrifying creatures to life – like the scene of Denji riding a Shark Devil while battling a massive, tornado-creating baby covered in intestines. It’s a chaotic and unbelievable fight, but MAPPA handles it flawlessly. The fight choreography is full of energy and is best experienced on the largest screen possible.
As a huge anime fan, 2025 was packed with great movies, but honestly, nothing gave me as much of a thrill as Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc! Denji’s story is just pure, energetic chaos, and it nails the mix of action, romance, and humor. Even if you haven’t followed the Chainsaw Devil saga before, MAPPA really delivered – this movie was easily one of the most fun experiences I had all year, anime or not!
Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc hits theaters on October 24th.
