To start off her performance, the singer dramatically ignited a massive banner emblazoned with the word ‘brat’, and proceeded to perform some of the album’s top hits such as “Von Dutch”, “360”, and “Girl”. The mix-up was quite perplexing.
Indeed, the popular tune titled “Apple,” during which Charli XCX usually selects a fan from the audience to be the ‘Apple girl’ and perform the song’s well-known dance routine, was also included in the performance lineup. It came as a shock to fans when pop sensation Gracie Abrams was chosen for this role instead.
“I love you so much, girl,” Charli said after Abrams had performed the iconic dance.
Towards the closing moments of the headlining performance, a familiar pattern emerged. Text appeared on large screens flanking the stage, expressing gratitude towards the audience and affirming, “It seems clear to me that ‘Brat’ endures among you all.
The next message read: “I don’t know who I am if it’s over.”
In the summer of 2024, I found myself captivated by the release of “Brat,” the sixth album from an extraordinary artist. This musical marvel sparked a cultural explosion, igniting what we came to know as “Brat Summer.” Remarkably, it garnered numerous accolades, among them three prestigious Grammy Awards.
