Charlie Cox unexpectedly appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and fans have been speculating about his return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This speculation increased after Jon Bernthal, who plays the Punisher, was seen in the first trailers, as Daredevil and the Punisher often appear together. The showrunner of the Daredevil: Born Again series mentioned that characters from that show won’t be heavily featured in other MCU projects, but can still make appearances in movies – which explains the Punisher’s cameo. Despite all the rumors, however, Daredevil (or Matt Murdock) appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains unconfirmed.
Charlie Cox has addressed the recent rumors, and it appears they’re unfounded. When asked about them at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards, Cox firmly denied any involvement. “I’m not in it,” he stated repeatedly. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I’m not there. Unless they digitally insert me later, I promise I won’t be appearing.” He apologized for having to clarify the situation.
Daredevil Shouldn’t Appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

During a recent interview, Charlie Cox jokingly denied being in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and when the interviewer expressed disappointment, Cox playfully agreed, saying, “Yeah, mine too.” He’s mentioned multiple times that he was eager to appear in the film, but it didn’t work out. There are good reasons why Daredevil would be a great addition to the movie, especially now that The Hand – a classic Daredevil foe – is back. Plus, with Elektra’s current situation unclear, the return of The Hand could create a strong emotional connection for Matt Murdock.
Peter Parker might need a lawyer if he tries to rebuild his life, but this could be explored in a future movie. With the potential for a new Spider-Man trilogy, there’s no need to rush this storyline. Given the established connection between Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and Peter Parker, and the arrival of the Punisher, it makes sense that Daredevil could appear.
The Punisher actually first appeared in Spider-Man comics, long before any conflicts with Daredevil. His initial storyline involved being used by the villain Jackal. A later fight with Spider-Man featured the villain Tarantula, who was also previewed in the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Interestingly, that trailer scene directly mirrored a cover from the original Amazing Spider-Man issue where Tarantula – and the Punisher – first appeared.
Introducing Jean Grey through The Hand is a good way to start the X-Men’s story in the MCU. Adding characters like Elektra or Daredevil would only make things unnecessarily complicated, and Marvel needs to keep things straightforward to regain the audience lost in recent phases. Daredevil already has a lot happening with his Born Again series, so he doesn’t need to be involved in this particular storyline. Keeping it focused will help successfully launch the X-Men into the MCU.
